tailgate assist spring

While traveling recently I rented a 06 Titan crew cab from Enterprise and noticed that it has a power rear window and a assit spring in the tailgate. I was wondering if anyone knew if the assit spring will fit my 04 crew cabs tail gate and if I can replace my rear window for one of the new ones?

From what I've seen, read, and tried to do myself, the answer is no and no.

The tailgate assist actually uses one of those pneumatic type cylinders that are used to lift the hood. It's installed behind the right rear brake light. Apparently it requires some mounting tabs that are installed on the body, and I believe there is some bracing in that area that isn't present on the '04 models. I believe someone on the forum was going to try to retro-fit it to his truck, but I don't recall hearing much more about it.

As for the rear window, the '04s have a completely different back wall than the '05s and '06s with the rear power window. However there is a company that sells a power rear window that slides to the side.

The only way I got tailgate assist on my 04 was when they replaced the bed with an 05.... it had assist built in.
