I'm looking for some recommendations for my 08 CC LWB rear diff assembly replacement. To make a real long story short my rear diff has gone bad. Bearings seem to be the original issues according to all machanics, but my diff has had water damage before that so more then likely water damaged caused bearing issues and so on. My question is, is there any other option besides OEM axel assembly? I read something about an aftermarket complete rear axel assembly somewhere? Can anyone give me some info of where to look at, thanks a bunch.

Have you taken the cover off yet to see what is damaged? I would install a tru-trac if possible. Also when you get it fixed you will want to do an axle vent mod because the factory axle vents fail causing the seals to blow out and loose fluid which leads to rear end failure.

Bearing failure and worn teeth is the prognosis. I would go with tru-trac but I guess since there has been water damage inside the pumpkin that a complete assembly is the way to go. This is what dealers & drive train garages have said. Unless anyone thinks this is crazy talk please let me know, I'm open to all u guys insigt. Do u know of any other options for a complete assembly?

Currie makes a complete aftermarket rear end with a dana 60 option and I think a 9" also. I believe they are a site sponsor but not 100%. Check out currie.com

I'd be curious as to how water got in the rear diff, though it is possible. Unless the case internals are junked, it may still be rebuildable. The cheapest option is to find a rearend from a wrecked T and build that around a TruTrac diff and you'd be all set. Custom from Currie is going to be great quality, but its also going to cost a whole lot of money.

I'm not super confident in a diff rebuild. I'm sure it would be the cheapest to do a rebuild but who is to say it's not gona be one rebuild after another. Also the worry about long trips just waiting for something to fail. I called Currie & spoke to a sales specialist, they don't have the required gear ratio for 4x4 so after buying a Curry assembly & tru-trac it would definitely be a hefty penny. More like hefty dollar.
Chris (Tascaparts), how much can you get an OEM rear diff for? 08 king Cab LWB 4x4 tow package 3.357 gear ratio. PM me with any questions or info if you would rather. Thanks for all the help everyone, keep the ideas coming if you've got them. I need all the help I can get. If anyone know a good drivetrain shop in Maine let me know.

Find a good differential shop and ask them about a rebuild. If they're comfortable with the supposed water damage then you're just as likely to get good service from a built reared from a legitimate diff shop as you are one built at the factory on an assembly line. A good diff rebuild from a shop with a good reputation is likely to last as long or longer than a factory build. Just don't go cheap or shady and you'll be fine.

Junk Yard or craigslist. The 2008+ axles were better and since you don't want one with locker it should be easy to find for cheap. $500ish for a good used with low miles...
