Cruising on I95 -> loud clunk-> brakes self engage-> ABS/SLIP->metal scraping sound..

05 4x4 CC w/111k miles.

So I was heading North on I95, cruise on 75mph when all of sudden I hear a loud clunk/clank and suddenly the breaks self engage and I hear a metal scraping sound. I pull off to the side and notice the ABS AND SLIP lights are on. Luckily I was able to pull into the VA welcome center parking lot.

Loud scraping sounds like it's coming from passenger side; dark out so I can't really inspect.

Just had it in for service this morning before my trip north. New struts and shocks, oil change, brake fluid flush, tires. Brake pads and rotors were still good.

Getting towed as I write this to Nissan of Roanoke Rapids. I'm 3hrs from home (MD) or else I'd get it towed home.

Stealer opens at 0900 so any advise/help before I walk in tomorrow would be appreciated.

Been searching and can't find my specific problem so figured I'd ask.

Maybe a wheel hub bought the farm.

bet it is your e brake, they tend to disintegrate occasionally.

Coming from the front brakes or rear brakes?

Sometimes when the e-brake shoes let go it is a catastrophic event that takes out the wheel sensor.

Doesn't matter if it was engaged or not, they just fall apart, and depending on what your doing at the time, take out other things like sensors. Passenger rear wheel hotter is potentially a sign.

Thanks Gents! I've got enough ammo to walk in to the stealer in the morning. Hopefully it doesn't put that huge of a dent in the wallet.

Might look around and see about an upgrade, at 111k miles It might be time for a fresh set of wheels if the deal is right.

So they quoted me over $1600 plus tax and 2 days of shop time due to parts not being in stock.

They said the ebrake went to **** which damaged the hub, axle, shaft and bearing. "Vehicle needs entire drum brake Kit, rear axle shaft, bearing and wheel speed sensor"

I said no thanks.

They removed all the shards of broken parts.

Had to drive it another 3 hours home. Sounds like **** but I made it with no additional hassles.

Parts list is attached. Cheapest a place to order?????

Pops is coming down and we're going to tackle this repair ourselves.

Every parts house should stock or can get all of that, nothing really special about that stuff.

Try rockauto.com, they seem to be pretty good at prices, you could also try courtesyparts.com for OEM parts.

I'm confused, the dealer let you drive an unsafe vehicle off of there lot? Did they make sign a waiver?

Re: Cruising on I95 -> loud clunk-> brakes self engage-> ABS/SLIP->metal scraping sou

I had that happen to my 2010 Titan @26,000 miles, last year my ebrake blew up so i called Nissan and fought with them to take so responsability and got them to pay for the parts and i had to pay labor which came to $200.00. They had to replace right rear brake caliper, lever toggler.ebrake shoes, spring ,adjusters and sensor assy.So i would call Nissan 1st to try to get help speak to a regional specialist.

10 years old and over 100k miles, Nissan isn't going to cover anything, nor would any other manufacturer.
