Test Drove Titan & F150 back to back.

I have to say after driving both trucks yesterday that I was more impress with the Titan when it came to power and features. The F150 was quiet and not to bad on power but definitly didn't have the pick up that the Titan did. Now the stereo was awesome in the 150 couldn't really try the Titan out to much the sales guy was messing with the Navi.

The only thing I don't like about the Titan is the way they do the options. I"m looking at an LE Crew, 4x4, BT, OR and would like to have the Sun roof and VDC package. However when I select Sun roof I automatically get Navi and theather system which is about $3K in options I don't need.

Has anyone had any luck ordering a Titan exactly like they want it? I guess I could settle for the Navi but no way on the rear dvd, my dog doesn't need to watch movies going down the road

I talked them into throwing in the theater system ($1000) when I got the Navigation system. I dont have kids and in almost 2 years I still haven't taken the plastic off the rear dropdown screen. In fact I don't think it has even been pulled down more than 2 or 3 times just to see it. I haven't even inserted a DVD in the player. So I got the Navi, sunroof and DVD system for $1000 off. They still made money, but I felt good afterwards.

Thanks the only problem with the dvd system is it takes up alot of room in the console. I'll have to go back to the dealer and give them my options and see if they can locate one with the packages on it I want.

Trust me, I know all about the "packages" and not being able to get what you want. I would have LOVED to get a sunroof, but buy up to an LE and get stuck with leather seats just to have a sunroof? No thanks...

Nissan has grouped things into packages to keep the number of different ways a truck can be configured to a minimul, this helps keep manufacturing costs down. But from a consumer's point of view it can be frustrating.

I think Nissan has done a great thing with their grouping as opposed to optioning every little single feature.

This helps keeps resale up also as there's no questions if it has this and that option. If it has the package, it has it all. The only other car besides Nissan that I had the options done this way was on a Chevy Camaro in '96. I really liked the concept even if it does take some more expensive options to a very high priced package.

Looked at a Durango and they nit pick every single option where the Pathfinder is thousands cheaper and offers more options.

Actually first and 2nd row seating room is the same between the two, but Durango is longer on their length beyond that for more comfortable seating for the 3rd row. This does take away from off road ride and I believe is why Pathfinder went with the length it has.

Power is on the Pathfinder side even with a Hemi Durango. Flat floor loading is also on Pathfinder's side. Durango has a buckle between the 2nd and 3rd row which makes it hard to load cargo. The lower Durango model deletes 3rd row but it only has AWD with a 4.7L, can't option up to 4WD or Hemi.

So the Durango really offers only higher towing and more seat room on the 3rd row, for literally thousands more.

I bet if they followed Nissans option packaging, they would have a vehicle near the same price.

Have a good one.

In all honesty, Love it! I really like it a lot more than the Titan since I never really used the Titan's bed for anything that couldn't fit in the Pathfinders cargo area.

For $1000 more list than 2004 truck I had or $1000 less than a comparable 2006 XE CC that I had, the Pathy is awesome!

Feels faster and seems to rev faster although the Titan was a hole shot vehicle with gobs more torque. Ride is obviously better with off and on road surfaces due to the wishbone IRS while maintaining a more controlled and confident ride. NO RATTLES, NO SQUEEKS, NO ENGINE NOISE, MUCH MORE QUIET INTERIOR and the luxury additions of adjustable pedals, auto climate control, sunroof, Bose system with subwoofer, power seats, power mirrors, auto dimming rear view mirror, Trip computer, and reclining 'rear' second row seats doesn't hurt either.

Although I would really like to wait until break-in is completely done before towing, I'm anxious to see how well it does with it's new design. I also just ordered a Prodigy brake controller with Nissan harness, opposed to the Draw Tite Activator II Time based brake controller I used on the Titan.

Also, averaging 13.2 mpg going to work always distressed me a bit with the Titan, but the Pathfinder cured that with 17.5 mpg! I roughly save $85/month!!!! That definitely helps with the new truck payment.

Really glad I did it and wish I did it sooner before the gas crunch so that I may had gotten more for the Titan.

BTW, it also does one thing the Titan couldn't do in crew cab form, FIT AN AIR MATTRESS. This one will fit. Now I can use the Pathfinder for sleeping whether it be long road trips, work split shift, or camping. I was going to get a Cap for the Titan but couldn't find anything that would offer comfortable sleeping with under 65" of length to go in the bed.

Have a good one.

The Titan Rockford Fosgate stereo is really nice. I have listened to the Ford's and think mine has more 'kick.' Of course, you can piece a better system together aftermarket but for a stock stereo this is by far the best one I have ever heard.

Our 05 LE didnt come with the sunroof or nav system so the dealer had one installed along with an aftermarket Nav system. They did a great job so this might be an option for you.

Re: Test Drove Tian & F150 back to back.

You can get what you want, BUT you will have to get side airbags with the sunroof option. I know.. I have one. I do NOT have Nav or DVD. I do have the sunroof.

If you are doing the online thing... add the sunroof, which will add... airbags, dvd and nav. THEN you can remove dvd and nav. You'll be left with sunroof and side airbag pckg.

If you need help/etc PM me. I got my build sheet.

I have 06 LE CC 4x4 BT, sunroof, side airbags, side steps, other misc.

EDIT: BTW your post reminded me... I drove F150/Silverado/F250/Titan all within days or sometimes hours of each other. By far... the Titan just felt "fun" to drive. Really can't explain it... doesn't matter. I love it now! :-)
