Pinging solution

My Titan with over 25k is starting to ping when it drops into 5th and when I accelerate.

Has anyone used a good fuel system cleaner to fix this. I always use Shell or Exxon gasoline.

I allways alternate between premium and reg. gas to keep the ping out. If I use straight reg. gas all the time it will definatly ping.

its probably spark knock. just carbon buildup on the valves. go to costco and buy a 4 pack of the chevron techron stuff for 20 bucks, put 2 bottles per 1 tank then i go to chevron when it is close to E and fill up with premium. then repeat with second 2 bottles if need be.

worked good on my 02 Ranger when i did that

BG44k it's the best fuel system cleaner out there. Most dealers use it, problem is, it's like $27 a bottle.

My dealer wants about $100 to clean the system...Is this a good price or should I try the BG 44K tank additives.

I forgot to mention I ran $20 (two big bottles) of Techron thru with no redution in the pinging...

Get out on 181 and blow the soot out of it. All this babying around to conserve gas isn't good for any engine. don't try to keep the beast bottled up!!! :.)

Considering $27 a bottle, $100 for the dealer to clean the system is not bad for the peice of mind.

I was always told to not use most the different additives out there to avoid gumming up my engine.

all they'll do is run an additive through the system...........my dad always has said that a good run down the interstate from time to time, and not just from one exit to the next, is good for the engine.

I think your right... I believe in the manual it say's not to use anything like that in the titan. Then again who know's, it also say's not to modify the truck in anyway.

Try running some GM top engine cleaner. A lot of guys swear by that stuff. Since you have only 25K miles, why are you being charged for this?

Tell the dealer that you're still under warranty and the truck shouldn't ping like that. Pinging means detonation and that's bad for the engine. Get them to fix it for you. You might have an O2 sensor that's going out or something. Better to have the dealer do it under warranty than you footing the bill when you reach 36K miles.

I hadn't talked to my dealer about this yet, just saw the price advertised on the service board....

I think Shell is a top tier gas, and since I use my Shell card I could prove this to the dealer and have them clean my system at no charge.

A much better alternative to the $100 dealer method is Fuel Power or FP60 www.lubecontrol.com . This product is well respected on The Additives, Fuel,Oil, Cleaners Forum
