I got a card in the mail yesterday advising me that I should "update my Navigation DVD" becau,se they have added so many new options and features in my area or something like that.
Now I know the roads around here haven't been moved around much and they haven't added that many in the past year or two so why would I want to spend (get ready for it) $190.00 to get the update?
I could understand it if they got rid of the nag screen and added voice or touch screen options, but that would require a new screen as well. For $190.00 I want a little more than to know that the McD's that was at the corner of Walk and Don't Walk is now a Wendys or the gas stations at the expressways exits are now all Shell instead of Citgo or something.

that is the gods honest truth i can get a magellen or tom tom for that price and replace the nave screen for a tv screen for cheaper then that 75cent dvd.
Bummer, updates should be free. Can't believe Nissan is not giving them to customers on a request basis. Maybe a phone call or two could convince them to give it to you. Long shot, but doesn't hurt to try. Newegg hooked me up the other day with a refund because part sent was different than what was shown, same part different ver. Only $20, but you spent most likely over $30,000 on truck, they can't give you a CD that costs them maybe $10. I agree it ain't worth $190 to update. Bad press for Nissan, shame on them.
Added: I use a notebook gps from DeLorme currently costs $40 for upgraded maps software, updates are free, $70 for map software and usb gps receiver.
Wow, this thread was revived after almost three years! Lexus wanted $300.00 for the Nav update in my wife's '06 RX330. Umm... no! Factory navigation is always a rip-off. Aftermarket is the way to go. Less expensive to buy and update, easier to bypass safety features, and usually a better product all around.
I think the factory navs are great......if they only could stop asking $2000 for the damn things! My TomTom, now that I know how to use it right, gets updates online and wrks great.

While I do like the Navigation system in the Titan I didn't really want it. I have GPS based navigation on my PDA and I can use that in any vehicle not just my Titan. When I travel I frequently use the "Find a restaurant" feature. When I'm specifically in the mood for chinese, BBQ or whatever that is a real nice feature that beats the heck out of looking in the phone book.

Why Update?
In one year, it is estimated that 8% of the addresses, 18% the telephone numbers, and 17% of the business names change. Changes also occur in 3-4% of the street signs, street names, and geometry. It is to you advantage to keep the information up-to-date. More current and accurate navigation data are the critical factors to sustain the value of your Nissan navigation system.
Maybe that's true as a nationwide average, but I doubt most folks would notice the difference locally. Besides, it's reasonable to assume that the information changes quite a bit in the time it takes to collect and format it on disk to the time the consumer loads it on his navigation system. The only major change in my area was the completion of the 210/30. It's accurately depicted in Microsoft Streets and Trips... $30.00! Even the full versions of the Garmin City Navigator are about $100.00. I think they let you update free for a year... not sure. Still a lot cheaper than Nissan's system.
