Just Developed "The Judder" & Dealer Says His Hands Are Tied By..
Nissan on what he can do. He said my 2005 Titan is the first 2005(built 12/04)he has seen with the judder problem. My truck has just over 9000 miles. Anyway, I asked about the permanent fix and the service manager said that according to Nissan their hands are tied and they have to first replace the pads and turn the rotors. Is their any way that I can get them to replace the rotors and pads?

My local dealership said they have all the parts fully in stock and will go straight to the new rotors and stuff the first time... Guess I'll measure my rotors after I pick it up to make sure.
Go to another dealer! Mine were replaced on the first visit, I just asked. They were doing the same for everyone, seems like my dealer has some common sense. Let's see, what cost more money and time; Turning rotors 3 times then replacing them, or just replacing them once?
At the dealership that I go to, they did the rotor turn the first time. I was told that I would have to come in three times before they would be able to do it. The rotors would have to be of a certain thickness before they would replace.
I took it to them yesterday, (2nd) time, and they did the complete fix.

yep go to another dealer, I was told (after my third set) that they were no longer "turning" the rotors that they were instructed by nissan to go straight to the new version
if you want, I can find the nissan letter extending the warranty on the brakes for another 36K miles if you wnat to better your case
hey sammy, which dealership did you go to? i've been waiting for a month to get my brakes from mitchell. i called a few days ago and they said 2 more weeks.

The latest TSB on this instruct the dealer to change out rotors if in stock. The turn three time thing was to buy Nissan time to get enough parts to all the dealers. Let me see if I can find that TSB for you.

I take it to Mitchell. It took them about 2-3 weeks for the parts to come in, this was back at the beginning of Summer. Perhaps there's a greater demand for them now and that's what's holding you up. Just keep calling them, they actually didn't realize they had them in stock till I stopped by.
If the dealer insists on turning the old rotors, that must mean they have a waiting list. Ask how many people are on the waiting list and where you are at on that list. My dealer had a list of people waiting. I was fourth on the list. I've had the new brake parts almost two months now and I'm surprised there is still a backlog of Titans to be repaired.

Call Nissan and complain everyday (BE NICE) till they call your dealership and demand they fix it right!

The TSB doesn't show the instructional letter telling every dealer to resurface front rotors and replace the pads BEFORE doing the final fix. Dealers are instructed not to replace the rotors until the 3rd try. However, if your dealer won't do as you ask, find another dealer. Mine did it no questions asked.

My dealer said."Did you have the problem before." I said,"Yes." He said,"OK, break out the new rotors." Its a game. Its called squeaky wheel gets the oil. Too much trouble for them to look it up. If they do, say you had it done at another dealer and it didn't last, that's why you're there. Sorry, but I've never had a problem getting things done. In contrast my parents went to fix my sister's corvette brakes for her. The Mechanic said the calipers were bad, which was BS and it just needed pads and rotors turned. He ended up selling them a set of brakes for an '80 vette for $1200. If they had asked me I could have fixed it for $100 total. It was done by the time I found out and this is how they have always done things. They just do what someone tells them to do instead of telling someone what they are going to do. Are you a teller or someone told?
I took it to the dealership that I bought the truck...they turned my rotors and they put me on a waiting list for the new brakes. After 6 months of waiting I took it to another dealership just to see what would happen. Two days later I had the new brakes. Go try another dealership.

You got that right. You bring an older car like that into a dealer or even an independent mechanic and their eyes light up with "cha..ching...cha..ching".
My uncle was going to bring his '96 LT4 to a mechanic because it ran hot one night. The gauge went into the red zone and the coolant started boiling. The next day, I went to the dealer and picked up a new thermostat and 5-min later had it installed. It ran perfect after that. It never gets above 195* on the freeway now. Who knows what an unscrupulous mechanic would've charged him. "Oh, I'm sorry sir. We have to replace water pump!" Or, "Oh, we had to put a new radiator in sir and the total bill comes to $400 plus coolant!"
I went to two dealers for my brake judder problem. The first one said that they'd have to turn the rotors before I got the final brake fix. The second one said just bring it in and they'll do the final brake fix. Guess which one I brought my Titan too?
I don't think it has anything to do with a "waiting list" anymore. The first dealer that told me they'd have to turn my rotors first seems to be low volume dealer. The second one I went two is alot busier and they gave me the final fix the first time in.
Another thing. The excuse the dealer is giving you is completely bogus. I have an '05 Titan and my build date is 10/05. I got the first signs of brake judder at around 2800 miles. By 3200, it was pretty bad when the brakes heated up. That's when I took it in.
