Tailgate Weight

Out of all the cars I could have rented in Atlanta, somehow I got a 2005 Titan Crew Cab. Although I have a KC with every option, the downgraded CC was still fun to drive even with a bench seat. The interesting thing was that the tailgate on the CC literally seemed to weigh about 10 pounds. I could flick it up with a finger. On my KC, it weighs about 100 pounds and takes energy to lift it up. I thought it was interesting that there was such a difference in the weight.

just thought it was interesting..

So now do you want an 06 CC?

The tailgate assist is great!

I think the wieght is the same, but it probably had the tailgate assist feature. You can buy a torsion spring for the tailgate here:

No. The OEM assist is a gas piston mounted behind the right rear tail-light.

I have a '04 model. Got to experiment with DeTitan's '05 tailgate last week when we met to transfer ownership of some accessories. I really would like to have that improvement on mine, but not via the aftermarket version currently available. I'll have to do without, I suppose.

Anyway, I was thinking, if that gas piston ever fails suddenly in a man's truck, I'd sure like to be watching when it happens. That oughta be good for a laugh or two.

No. The '05+ have special mounting provisions on the body that aren't present on '04 models. It might be possible with some fabrication, but there's no simple bolt-on solution using the OEM system.
