Question Should the head lights be adjusted after PRG?

Last weekend I installed the PRG Leveling Kit! (thanks greg) and I have noticed that people have been flashing their lights at me thinking my high beams are on. I was wondering after the PRG has anyone adjusted their head lights? If so how and to what adjustments?

Wow, great post. I am about to put on the DR coilovers which will probably do the same thing.

Referring to the 2004 Service Manual (well worth the $20)

Headlight Aiming Instructions: LT 31&32

Fog Light Aiming Instructions: LT 76

Using the factory diagram for headlight adjustment against a wall at a set distance only applies to trucks at stock height. You'll either need to do a little math to figure out the proper distance, or do it the easy way and just adjust them against the ground.

Good point, Sammy. However you will notice that in the adjustment diagram the vertical distance to the center of the headlight is given only as "H". Measure this on each truck and use that distance. All the other distances given in the diagram will be the same as listed.

I haven't really looked at it too closely. I've just found that it's easier to simply find a flat are like a parking lot and adjust them according to the coverage along the ground. I too had people flashing me after I first installed the level kit. I adjusted the driving lights (aka "fogs") to fill in under the low beams.

If you only raise the front, you can get close by doing it geometrically, based on the rear axle being the pivit point.

1. Measure exactly how much the front kit lifted the truck at the front axle.

2. Park aiming at a wall, with the front wheel the same distance from the wall as the trucks wheelbase is long.

3. Adjust the headlights down so that the contact point on the wall is lowered by twice the distance the front was raised at the front axle. That should get you close to what it was before the front lift.

If you lifted the front and rear, subtract the rear lift from the front, and adjust the impact point twice that amount. (Example: 2" front - 1" rear = 1" x 2 = 2" point of impact lowered)
