I had noticed that members replaced their fog light bulbs

with Silverstars 893ST (I searched) but when I looked at they Sylvania website they have the 899ST as the replacement bulb. I cant find the 899's anywhere and I cant find the information on them on the Sylvania web site. Does anyone have any information on this?

Thanks

Last I checked, they don't make a 899 Silverstar, but the 893 will work.

What Sammy said. I have the 893ST in my fogs at the moment. They work.

To confuse the issue further, my owners manual specifies 881 for the fogs.

Are you replacing them because they burnt out? or are you getting better light with different bulbs?

I changed the low beams to the JDM HID Titan kit that sells on Ebay. This made the high beams and the fogs appear to be very yellow. I get a little more light out of the silvers stars (alot more out of the HIDs), but the main reason was that the silvers stars are quite a bit whiter (less yellow) than the OEM halogens.

Re: I had noticed that members replaced their fog light bulbs

This brings up another point.

Remember the yellow fog lights from the days of old.

Is there a bulb that one could put in to make the current fogs yellow?

Bestatchess do you also own an MB?

Hey does any one have the link to the HID bulbs that people are buying off ebay and has anyone had any problems at all with the bulbs or the company?

No problems here. If that link doesn't work, search on Ebay for:

JDM HID Titan

Did that kit come with everything needed to install? Did you have to buy anything extra? I think I'm going to send that link to my wife everyday till Christmas.

I bought the ebay JDM HID Titan kit. It came with:

HID bulbs
ballasts
all necessary connectors
brackets for the ballasts

I did not use the brackets. I used some industrial strength Velcro that I already had and velcroed it to the areas as shown on the swank monkey page.

So yes, it comes with everything you need, with the possible exception of the velcro depending on how you want to mount the ballasts. There is no cutting or splicing of wires. Everything just plugs into place.

Re: I had noticed that members replaced their fog light bulbs

Some one on the for sale side of the forum is trying to get a group purchase of the jdm hid kits going.

I am a bit confused about the light coloration and advantages there from.

I find that the led flashlights produce a blue-ish light. Personally I find it difficult to use them when compared to standard or halogen bulbed flash lights.

I also remember sun glasses claiming to filter out Blue so that the vision was clearer.

Personally I found that from the days of old the yellow or as you put it amber fogs really provided an improvement in visibility and less glare when compared to white fogs (not just during foggy weather!).

Any one care to throw some light on this matter?

The advantage of the yellow or amber colored lamps is that the light carries less energy than blue light. This is why ultraviolet light will give you a sunburn, whereas infrared just keeps french fries warm. Also, the part of the human eye that receives blue light is more sensitive than those that receive red and green. That is why HID lamps and the cheapo 'ultra-blue' halogens hurt your eyes so bad at night.

The reason fog lights work is that the beam is low and flat, so not much of the light comes back directly to your eye. The color has very little to do with it's effectiveness.
