I had an issue with my Dodge where the seat back mount brace broke just a couple miles over 36k. You think driving with a slouching seat is bad, try having one where the back has broken... They fixed it as a goodwill item since I serviced through them a couple of times. But they told me that was the last time that they would be able to help me with an issue under warranty repair.
While I was waiting on the part, I used a long threaded bar and wire ties to hold it up...it wasn't pretty but it worked.
I'm sure any dealer can fudge the mileage on the report to the manufacturer as long as you are close and don't have a record of putting a ton of miles on your vehicle and interval since last service would indicate a mileage higher than reported.
The one certain thing is that if you don't use the dealer for service for all recommended major services, don't bother trying to get something fixed out of warranty because there is no loyalty between you and the dealer other than your inital purchase.
