Anyone Line-X over the bed rails?

I want to get the bed sprayed real soon and had planned to remove the cheap plastic covers on the top of the bed and have them sprayed as well. I've seen this done on other trucks and I think it looks nice, plus they won't scratch up like the plastic ones did the first time I threw something on them. However, I didn't realize that there were alot of holes in the bed for these plactic covers to snap into! Has anyone removed these and filled them in? I was thinking the easiest way would be to JB weld or epoxy small pieces of sheet metal on the under side of the rail, and then fill in the top with a little bondo. I think this would be sufficient and a lot eaiser that welding and grinding.

Ideally I would like to do this to the top of the tailgate as well, but I'm not sure how that would look with the black place piece around the handle that fits under the top cap.

I guess the other option would be to replace them with black diamond plate, but they can scratch too and that really isn't the look I was going for. Plus, I haven't seen any on the forum. Any pics or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Smile Hope this helps

I had this done on an F150 and a Toyota Tundra. Both of them were done over the rails and it looks really nice and is very functional. I did not have to fill in any of the holes because the people who installed it said it was included in the price. Maybe you should ask the people who are installing it.

if/when you do this, if your truck is a crew cab, do you want to sell those plastic caps?

The guys at the Line-x dealership said they wouldn't fill in the holes. I just went out and started to take off the plastic covers and now I understand why...there are a lot more holes in there than I thought, so I don't think this is going to be a good option.

Does somebody make diamond plate versions of these? Or maybe just metal versions that I could get sprayed with line-x and put back on?

Can they just Line X over the plastic caps? I was wondering if they could because I would like to have those as well as the inside tailgate plastic cover sprayed too.

Yeah, I was hoping they could do that too, but the guys said he wouldn't spray them. I'll probably try to find another place to go and get a second opinion. I still can't believe how many of those little clips and holes they have, what a horrible design. This is my biggest gripe about the Titan so far, so I guess it could be a lot worse

They can't be re-used. When you pull them off the clips break. I went to the trouble of removing a section of utility track to find this out. Replacement caps are only $30 each.

Not totally certain but my understanding is that if the surface is prepped you can rhino (similar prod to line-x) almost anything.

Cement, glass, wood, metal, pvc, etc etc.

Re: Anyone Line-X over the bed rails?

I'm a LINE-X dealer.

Too many holes and the holes are too large. (We can cover up small holes using (real) metal tape.a0

I don't think I would spray the plastic caps as is. I don't think they would provide a good enough foundation for the product. Your talking about a fairly large area of thin flimsy plastic (the same goes for Ford and Toyotas). If I WERE to spray them, I would prime them first with LINE-X XPM primer.

I've not pulled the caps off of a Titan, but I have off a Tundra and F150. The rails are an UGLY shape.

Re: Anyone Line-X over the bed rails?

Well thanks for the info, thats pretty much what I was thinking. So what would you recommend then? I would like to get something that is more durable than the plastic caps. Is there anything out there without having to custom make something?
