I think your wrong man! I sell Dodges and Nissans and my District Manager as well as others high up in the Chrylser chain has verified to us that Ford DOES own a large % of cummins! I also talk to the local Ford Dealer down here and he also verifys the same thing. Chrysler and Ford had a contract that Dodge could not come out with a "Crew Cab" for so many years. Well it's over now and thats why dodge came out with the 2006 Mega Cab. And do you also know that dodge holds the patent for the "Powerstroke" engine? I don't know where the misconception is but I get my info from the source.
Just goes to show how widespread this false information is...you country boys woudn't even know how to verify ownership in the first place. Why don't you take a look at Cummins' filings with the SEC, genius?

Does that sound right to you? Do you think Dodge would allow Ford(or any other manufacture) to dictate what they can and can not build? What patent are you refering to? What's so special about the Powerstroke diesel that there's a patent? So, you're telling me that for every PS diesel built, Ford is paying a royalty?

Ford does not own any part of Cummins, that is an urban legend.
Ditto. It's a bigger myth than the easter bunny.
What started it was back in the early 90's Ford bought some shares (like 10%-15%)of Cummins stock, but Cummins purchased it back in 1997. If I remember correctly the parent company of Kubota tractors also bought a few shares, but don't quote me on that one.
This is the same article I read in Automobile Magazine years ago, except this is from the New York Times.
<snippet> January 4, 1997
The Cummins Engine Company said yesterday that it had bought back 1.3 million of its common shares from the Ford Motor Company and would repurchase 1.7 million more shares on the open market. The company also said that Kenneth R. Dabrowski, a vice president at Ford, had resigned from Cummins Engine's board, as planned under a 1990 investment agreement with the auto maker. Cummins, a maker of diesel engines, said it would issue 3.75 million shares of its common stock to an employee benefits trust. The stock would be used to finance employee retirement savings programs. In New York Stock Exchange trading, Cummins Engine rose $1.25, to $46. After the purchase from Ford, Cummins has about 38.2 million shares outstanding. <end>
Give it up, this urban legend has spread FAR too much.

So why would Ford contract with one company when it owns another, and one that makes a pretty sweet motor??
No, Navistar (parent company of International) makes the PowerStroke engine. http://www.navistar.com/site_layout/engine/index.asp
The old 7.3 Powerstroke is known as the T444E in International nomenclature. The new 6.0 Powerstroke is known as the VT365E.
Oh and, Ford still doesn't own any part of Cummins

And isn't Chevy having some issues with the Duramax?
There was a lot of problems with the early fuel injectors, they didn't last and when they broke they would fill up the crankcase with diesel fuel since they were inside the valve covers. I heard the newer ones are better but not completely fixed. I don't have a lot of insight on this though, someone else should post more info if they know it.

This is an interesting thread....and a bit ironic. Some observances:
A couple months ago when gas prices were $3+ per gal, a lot of folks were hootin' and hollarin' about the Titan's lackluster gas mileage. Talk of a fuel efficient Titan was abundant.
Now, it seems, as gas prices have lowered and are a bit more stabilized, the talk is again about POWER and not fuel efficiency.
I am more on the "hey lets get a powerful truck, albeit with some good gas mileage" (read: light duty diesel). I hope Nissan and other truck makers are listening.
I would love to be a fly on the wall in Nissan's design and marketing departments to see what they have in store for us.
My bad I must have got some false information! I knew that Ford had something to do with cummins, I thought it was becasue they owned Volvo and Jaguar. Again my bad!

I also thought Ford owned Cummins till I read that article....broke my heart, because at the time I was a hugh Ford fan.
Just be sure to strighten out the person that gave you the bad information..

You are willfully ignorant, if after all that, you still think Ford owns Cummins. We have provided you links from public sources and yet still you stick to your guns. I cannot help you if you are not willing to help yourself.
It isn't about the so-called "knowledge" of some friend or family member.
It is about FACT, and we have supplied it to you.
