Electronic locker

I was just wondering if anyone here has tried ( or has the expertise ) to try and take the electronic locker out of the rear and put it in the front . I would rather have a mechanical limited slip ( a.k.a. dana power locker ) and not have to rely on ABS . or

I can say with 99% certainty that it is not possible. Solid axle in the rear and IFS in front.

Re: Electronic locker

Yeah but I thought a carrier is a carrier regardless of independant or solid axle .

Re: Electronic locker

The front wheels aren't connected like the rears. It can't be done. BUT!!!!

Do a search here! Someone was able to rewire the rear locker so it'll lock at any speed, in 2WD, 4LO, and 4HI ! That'll solve your problem. The electronic E-LOCK is a real locker, not ABS run. Good luck,

It might be able to be done. If it can't be done, it's definitely not for the reason you wrote.

The back diff is an M226, the front is an M205. They appear to be the same size (at least they use many of the same pictures in the service manual) - and the size and spline count will be the determining factor on whether or not it can be done.

Both the front and back diffs are connected to the wheel via axle shafts. The rear axle is a semi-floater with axle shafts that run from the diff carrier all the way out, and are bolted to the axle housing at the outside end. The front diff also has axle shafts - a little short one on the driver side and a longer one on the passenger side - but they're still axle shafts. Those axle shafts are connected via 8 bolt flanges to the CV shafts, which are splined to the wheel bearings and held on by the axle nut.

The rear axle shafts (and, hence, the electronic locker diff carrier) are 32 spline. If the front axle shafts are also 32 spline (and I'd be willing to bet they are), then it would depend on if the carriers are physically the same size. Like I said it looks like they're the same size, but I don't know for sure.

Re: Electronic locker

ARB made a locker for Jeep Liberty (aluminum front Dana 30, IFS) but it was apparently too much for the aluminum housing.
