Remote start/Alarm, which brand do you like and why?
Noob to the fourm,
Well it's snowing here in Michigan, a remote start sure looks handy right now. Any advice on which brand? I would like to keep the unlock/lock/start on one fob so I might end up with a full Alarm. I'll be installing myself, don't trust those kids at Best Buy. Any online wiring diagrams? Where can I pick up a service manual?
Re: Remote start/Alarm, which brand do you like and why?
i suggest the Clifford Matrix RSX 3.5 or the equivalent Viper 791xv. Compustar also makes great products like the 2wSS.

Re: Remote start/Alarm, which brand do you like and why?
I personally like mine by DEI...It adds on to the factory remote and u can keep the remote...I got a hornet that adds also to the factory alarm and everything looks stock. I control the windows up AND down with my factory remote, arm, disarm my truck as well and start my truck. Its great!
Re: Remote start/Alarm, which brand do you like and why?
I will second the choice of any DEI product. They make a great alarm, and remote start. They also make the modules that interface with our immobilizer system for the remote start. Crimestopper also makes a good quality product. PM me and I can give you some websites where you can get these products for a reasonable price.

I have the viper 791 and I love it. I grew up in AK and know the value of an autostart. This is the best one I have ever had. The range is outstanding... Not to mention the visual confirmation for when your vehicle is out of sight. I always hated siting in the movie theature and wondering if I had remembered to lock my car. Now just look at your keys and see you locked it.

Ditto... I love my Viper 791 XV!

Re: Remote start/Alarm, which brand do you like and why?
Installed a CodeAlarm C640 this summer. Range is amazing. Was able to start my car from the cafeteria where I work. (nearly 1/4 mile away from parking lot). By the time I got to my truck, the ice had melted enough to simply be brushed away.
Re: Remote start/Alarm, which brand do you like and why?
I'm planning on doing the DEI remote start thing with the stock remote.
I generally keep my Titan out of bad neighborhoods, and it is garaged
So just the remote start for me.
I'm planning on getting:
DEI 556U $20
DEI 561t $80
I'll do the install myself. (Well if I can figure it all out)

Does our stock setup have an auxillary output so you can use a 561T?
I've never gotten an answer to this.

I think you hook on to the lock wire in the door and then you use the factory fob to start it by pushing the lock button the number of times that you program it for, usually 3.
I went with the crimestopper rs900 and the new remotes are so much better as far as range goes. I don't see any advantage to keeping the factory fob. I took my time and soldered all of the connections and everything and it took me 4 days (4-6 hours a day to get it all hooked up but it works like a charm. Just takes time to find all of the wires and get them hooked up good. I wasn't in a hurry and don't have a garage that I can get the truck into so I was working on it in the driveway weather permitting.

Re: Remote start/Alarm, which brand do you like and why?
I just got the RS900 myself. However this is not the first RS900 or crimestopper product I've used.
I wish there was another place to grab the lock/unlock pulses from since I hate tearing into doors... oh well.
Oh and for those of you doing your own installs. If you have the tansponder bypasses... Do yourself a favor and take the transponder OUT of the key before you put it in the box. Those boxes are VERY easy to spot under the dash. You are practically giving your key to a theif. The other option is to mount that box in an unusual or difficult place to get to. My $.02.

You cut the key in half or grind it down and no one can use it to start the car.
