F150

Just saw a new f150 comercial that stated their tow rating is 9,900 lbs. trying to step up to the plate.

Re: F150

That is the max tow rating of a properly equiped regular cab long bed F150, if my memory serves me correctly. Once you configure an F150 to extended cab or super crew...it's tow rating is less than the Titans.

Re: F150

Seems to me that none of the F-150 commercials seem to address its power or torque.

Its all about its safety whether its the 6 bolts in the bed, the heated frame, the Toby Kieth box frame.

Atleast you'll know you'll be safe when you get run down by a semi.

Can anyone name a Ford product that doesn't catch fire?

Re: F150

Even so...anyone regularly towing 9500 LBS with a Titan, F-150 or any other 1/2 ton, is kidding themselves. Once in a while you may get away with it, but if you tow on a regular basis, do yourself a HUGE favor, move up to at least a 3/4 ton truck.

Re: F150

well, absolutely.....it is not something that you would do on a regular basis in any 1/2 ton....

Re: F150

Yeah, I'm not sure why you would try to point out a stat that is pretty much meaningless. EX. Toyota's commerical where they pull the boat out of the water next to the helpless F150. Dumb. Or the endless quotes of highest "standard" something vs. highest period including optional equipment, etc. Just marketing. Bottomline, each truck accels at something, except the GM, which is consistently rated last by every review I read. Ford and Titan are always in the top 3 and then dodge and Toyota jump in and out of the top 3. That being said, the Ford is probably #1 or #2 depending on your priorities. Mine is performance so here I am.

Re: F150

The F-150 is a good truck. A damn good truck, especially with the Lariat trim. It would do better in the performance testing if it was not overweight. It gained a lot of needless weight in its last update. If Ford had put its DOHC 4 valve heads (Navagator) on the truck rather than that wierd 3 valve technology and had hooked it up to a good five speed auto, it would be a lot closer to the Titan. I'd rate it second.

I drove an Expedition for many years. It was a very good truck, just low on power, even with the 5.4 engine and the lower gearing of the towing package. It was just the two valve per cylinder model. I test drove a new one with the three valve design before settling on my Armada. The new Ford engine was better, but not much. I fell in love with this engine and drive train and have not looked back. But Ford makes a good product.

My "other truck" is an F-250 3/4 ton diesel with 450,000 very reliable miles.

Re: F150

Well Armada, I must agree. My Dad is one of those Fordnatics that you occasionally hear about. He's owned em' most of his life and all of my life and for the most part has had very good luck with them. His 2004 4-door F-150 truck that he has now drives and rides a lot better than my trusty Titan and he gives me plenty of grief over my "Jap Crap", but when I took him for a ride and stompped down on the LOUD pedal, he looked over at me and said...."damn boy, this truck'll run"....

Re: F150

Pasadena got that nickname many years ago when hwy 225 was the only way into town and you had to pass the paper mill. Pasadena has moved south and the papermill is all but closed down these days. The stinch of the Petro/Chemical industry along the ship channel mostly blows over Channelview, Tx.... except on the rare days of a north wind blowing in. Of course, since I work in that industy, It smells like money to me.
