I have the offroad package on my '04 two wheel drive crew cab. Its almost time to change the tires and I thought now would be a good time to get rid of the offroad package. The reason I want to do this is because I never use it and my fiance and I are tired of the "rough" ride on slightly bumpy surfaces.
My question is what would I need to do to convert it from an offroad to the standard package. What price range am I looking at? Thanks.
What kind of air pressure are you running in your tires? Have you tried to deflate them a little to get a better ride?

Not too sure what the air pressure is. I did have a low tire pressure light on for about a week when the first cool fronts came in but it didnt really have an effect on the ride.
I was thinking it was the shocks. But Im no expert.
It is the shocks. As far as I know the springs are all the same. You can either buy stock Nissan shocks or buy an aftermarket shock equal to the factory firmness. To be sure why don't you go test drive a new Titan without the offroad package and feel the difference to be sure it will be worth the dollars to do.

Yea if your light was on then you are already to low. I dont think the shocks would do that much to lessen the bumps. I think it is more along the lines of the springs taking the impact and I am not sure if there is a difference in the leaf springs between the reg. and off road packages. I would tend to believe that the off road shocks would do a better job of absorbing the imact better than the stock shocks. This is my opinion only, someone else might have a better technical answer for you.

My 2WD KC does not have the Off Road package or Big Tow and it rides rougher than an old wooden roller-coaster.....I suspect that it'll take more than a shock change and spongey tires to make the Titan ride like a........dare I say......Tundra!

I have a 2wd KC without offroad, it does ride a bit rough, I have not driven the offroad to tell if its less rough, I was thinking about changing the shocks out with some nice bulstiens. My old Dodge rode a bit smoother but the powertrain was not nearly as smooth or powerful as the Titans.
More than likely its the shocks. Those are probably valved fairly stiff for offroad use, plus Rancho isn't all that great of a shock anyway.
I would install the stock shocks that come on the non-offroad Titans,or buy a nice set of Bilsteins.
Question for anyone that can answer, since I don't have access to an Off-Road model.
-Is the front springs longer, and or do they have a heavier rating? Are the front spring progressive wound, or straight rate?
My understanding is that shocks and Deaver spring pack will soften the ride substantially as the Deaver spring pack replaces the factory overload leaf. www.titanspecialist.com
I have OR with the stock shocks replaced by DR Coilovers and Bilsteins in the back and the ride is substantially improved over the OEM Ranchos.
If all you are looking for is a softer ride, I would call Greg and ask him what he recommends. Perhaps there is a less expensive alternative suitable for your intended use of the vehicle.
PS Two of my OR Ranchos were blown at 28,000 miles to that may be part of your problem.

2WD off road package? What's wrong with this picture?
My KC 4X4 drives pretty smooth down the road. I'd say that past changing tires, if it bothers you that much, trade it in. I'd also consider a drive in a new TITAN without the OR package on the same route to see if there is indeed much of a difference.
As of now, Bilstein doesn't make a shock for the Titan.

Interesting. I didn't know that about the PRG Bilsteins. I guess they are modded from another application. I wonder if they ever looked at the Edelbrock IAS shocks.
my 2wd kc with the off road package rides pretty good, its a little rough, but at the end of the day it is still a truck, not an eldorado. so i knew what i was getting into
