Any of you Titan owners have the Flex Fuel option and running E85 fuel???

I see that Nissan offers a FFV option on the Titans. Since I live in ND, E85 is becoming more popular and is available in all major cities now. From what I've heard, vehicles running E85 get a little worse gas mileage since it burns faster. I was wondering if anyone was running E85 and what kind of mileage you were getting (compared to running regular gas). Currently, E85 is a good $0.35-$0.40 a gallon cheaper compared to 87 octane gas so it may or may not be cheaper to run depending on MPG. Another thing which maybe cool about E85 is since its higher octance (105) aftermarket computer programmers maybe able to take advantage of this (I know most hypertech have the option have the option of running premium fuel like 92). Are there any programmers out there yet for the Titan? Thanks!

Mine is FFV but I haven't been able to run it yet because I haven't even seen it. Down south here and not a station around with it.

The manual states a 30% decrease in mileage. I have run it but have not kept track of the actual decrease, I was using it when gas was 3.00 a gallon. E85 started off .30 cheaper than regular now it's .10 cheaper. Not worth it at that price...

Here is a link to find a station in your area if you are lucky.

i am wondering besides getting less milage does it increase performance
i.e. better acceleration

and does it keep the enging running smoother/cleaner with less wear and tear

Re: Any of you Titan owners have the Flex Fuel option and running E85 fuel???

I ran 1 tank of E-85 right after I started keeping track of my mileage (from the 2nd tank of gas). I noticed no difference in acceleration, but then again, I was still breaking in the motor. I did however get 11.9 mpg from the E85 and have been running right around 15 mpg with regular unleaded. After about 5000 miles I started running premium unleaded, and noticed no difference in mileage but the truck seems more "zippy" as far as acceleration goes. The 3 mpg decrease using the E85 has kept me from trying it again. I suppose I will eventually, just out of curiosity.

Re: Any of you Titan owners have the Flex Fuel option and running E85 fuel???

I'm running E85 in mine. Went from 15mpg to 12mpg. It's 105 octane and I feel a noticeable increase in power. Gas stations around here run about 20 cents cheaper for E85 than regular gas. It's actually cheaper to burn regular gasoline at that price difference but I do get more HP and feel like I'm doing less harm to the environment.

Re: Any of you Titan owners have the Flex Fuel option and running E85 fuel???

I ran E85 about a month ago, 2 tanks, my MPG was 9.5 and 11.8. At that time E85 was $0.40 cheaper. Now it is only $0.20 cheaper. I'm getting about 13.5 to 14 MPG w/regular to mid-grade. Not worth going back to E85.

Also I believe the manual states that if you run E85 that in temperatures of 32 degrees to 0 degrees outside that the Titan could run rough, hard starts, or even run sluggish. Below 0 degrees Nissan doesn't recommend E85. And you have to use 5w30 motor oil w/E85. Just a thought. To much to change to save money in my book.

Interesting note on the not running E85 below zero. Any ideas why? I would think since E85 is 85% ethanol you wouldn't have to worry about it freezing at all. Oh and the last sign I saw for E85 it was at $1.49/gallon (haven't seen that price for a long time!). At that price and say 12MPG it would be 12.4 cents per mile vs 15MPG (1.99 87 octane gas) would be 13.3 cents per mile. I guess it it would take at least 50cents per gallon cheaper to make it worth while.

yea it really isn't worth it. I don't really know why Nissan doesn't recommend running E85 below 0 degrees. Maybe the reaction to the fuel at that temperature.

Re: Any of you Titan owners have the Flex Fuel option and running E85 fuel???

well it is worth it but financially
it is herdening
it helps the environment and that help us all
and it also help to continue e58 production and further it's popularity
it it becomes a huge fuel alternative the the prices will fall
and we will stop being dependant on oil to make gasoline
so yes for NOW it isnt economical but in the long run it will help prices come down a lot
and help the enviroment too
so in short YES it is worth it
i will start buying it but i need to know if it can be mixed with gas as i have gas when i would be headed that way (the only station in town for e58 )
