JDL,

Sorry about your diff. I've had 2 replaced already

Could you please file at NHTSA website? It looks like we may be pretty close to getting something done. A real fix instead of a replacement that will just fail again. The process takes less than 10 minutes, it's easy, and can only help all of us out.

Thanks!!!!

Just to clarify, are dealers replacing the differential when the rear axle is found leaking? Please clarify.

thanks

In my particular case, after replacing two real axle seals, driver side, and third one starting to leak, dealer then replaced entire axle also admitting that the slop and clunk noise coming from the rear involved the differential. Wasn't a total failure since I drove it for one week waiting for the replacement axle to arrive.

Will post to NHTSA site.

I just bought a New 2006 Titan. Is this rear differential thing something I have to worry about? If so how do I know if mine goes bad?

Your probably okay. 2004 and 2005 models seem to be the ones with issues. Mainly 4X4s.

Re: Here's # of Rear Diff Failures Reported

CAn someone please post the link so I can fill out the form for my rear end failures? I had one replaced at ~19k. The truck is now at the dealer having the second one replaced at ~21k. I leased this truck for 39 months and I will be pissed if the rear end goes out again after the warranty expires and I still have lease payments left to make.

I should also add that the first rear to go totally blew apart. I had been hearing a clunking that morning and on the way back home a huge boom and then nothing. I had a flat bed come pick up the truck.

I have been so happy with the service at the dealer where I bought and have my truck serviced. They come to my house pick my Titan up leave me with a loaner truck, service the Titan and then bring it back to my house and take their loaner back. This is a 50 mile round trip for them too. Excellent service and one of the many reason why I will buy another Titan.

Re: Here's # of Rear Diff Failures Reported

Well today it finally happened.

I was pulling out of work and as I jumped on it, a nice loud bang (like someone hitting the bed of the truck with a base ball bat) Followed by a neutral slam feeling as the ring and pinion let loose. I was able to limp it in to the dealer. I just received a call from the dealer that said they were pulling the truck out from the service entrance and the diff completely blew.

So I will be reporting this to NHTSA. I just passed 20K miles on her.

Its a good thing I love this truck. But Nissan needs to do something to help the 04 owners out. I also am having them replace the pads and rotors for the 2nd time (the first time they replaced them with the new "FIX" with the new style rotors) I guess that doesn’t really work. UNDERSIZED BRAKES for the application. NISSAN I WANT A FREE STILLEN BIG BRAKE KIT TO MAKE ME HAPPY.

NHTSA complaint filed at 6:43pm 10/23/06
