Thanks TallTexan. I just bought a new (used) boat, a Maxum 2400 SCR, weight about 5,100 lbs, trailer about 1,200-1,400., tongue weight 600-800 lbs. I have been reading a lot here about rear diff failure. I normally drive really conservativley and have about 13,500 miles on my 2006 Titan. I get a little worried about pulling heavier loads now. Of course i drop it into 4 and tow mode. Just added air bags. I am putting temp gauge on for transmission heat. I understood that using a synthetic diff oil would help.
have 2006 Titan owners been reporting many problems with rear diff?
Check the tally sheets on this forum.

Tomorrow I'm set to buy an 05 SE CC 4X4 with 26k miles. Test drives showed no sign of diff failure, but I'm no expert. It has an aftermarket, aluminum diff cover and does not leak. Is there something specific I should be looking for before I make the priciest vehicle purchase in my life?
check the seals are not leaking behind the rear tires. Drive at different speeds and see if you have a whine comming from the differential. Check passenger side front carpet for water leakage from the a/c. Check the owners papers to see if the latest brake mods have been done by Nissan. You still have lots of warranty left so you should be o.k. After you purchase, read all the posts here regarding Titan problems and you will know what to look for. Good luck.

I was hoping that the 07 diffs would hold up but a friend of mine here in Houston just blew his diff at 2200 miles. His was a 2wd, non B/T, XE. His diff is the ZHO2A which should be the higher gear not the 336. He said he started hearing a whine and within 2 days it was real loud. Had it towed to dealer and he is now in rental. Surprise! His Service Mgr did not act surprised. He asked why they sold him a truck when Nissan knows the diffs has problems. Mgr said they just fix them. Sound familar. I will update when I get his info.
update; My friend got his truck back with a new diff. He only had the part number which he said was 2003786. I asked him to try and get more info. He said the dealer told him that he recieved a new up-dated differential. Boy I have heard that before. So we know the 07's are failing too. This one on 2wd truck w/294 gears.

Update on my Titan: The dealer has started playing games now that my warranty has run out. The 4th diff they put in still has about 8 thousand miles left of part warranty left but when I took it in to the dealer to hear the whinning comming from the new diff, the noise was hard for them to hear, if you get my drift.
They called and said that I could come back and the service mgr. would drive it and see if he could hear it. I am done playing games.
I have turned it over to the BBB Auto Line here in Houston and will see how this goes but willing to go to Lemon Law if I can not reach a settlement.
With the 07 diffs now failing, at least in 2wd, a buy back would probably be my best bet. I would not mind a 08 Titan but not without a good understanding of how they have fixed the differentials. We will see.

I have a 2005 CC with Big Tow & Offroad package...My mileage was at like 16k and the rear diff light started flickering on longer trips...I took it to the dealer and they couldn't recreate the problem so I took it home...it did it again and I went back..The dealer decided that they knew what the problem was and ordered and replaced the whole rear axle under warranty ! They never specifically said what was wrong with the old one but promised the new one would be better...I got my fingers crossed but everything seems great now. They drove out to my house picked up the truck and returned it to my house the next day..

Door fires ????? WTF.... I have 32,500 miles on my 04 CC LE big tow. I have pulled a 20 foot trailer with a Corvette loaded with tires, tools etc with no problems that I know of. What should I look or listen for? I want to check the rear diff out before the warranty runs out. I have read a butt load of posts but would appreciate a heads up of what we should look for or inspect to determine rear diff failure, preferably before it fails.

Is there any word yet on whether the 2008`s have a new differential?

Nissan is not talking. What do you think?
