slight understatement my friend! hoopers to this date is the only solution for the 2wd titan owner who wants to improve their gear ratios! 4.11s can't come soon enough!!!

Re: Here's # of Rear Diff Failures Reported

I would like to add that I am an 07 with 34,00xx miles and my rear end went out. The dealer said they are going to replace it with an 07 rear end. If so I am going to save up for TT.

huh? all replacement rear ends are now 08 stamped as far as i know. my 04 has a brand new 1 week old 08 stamped rear end. unless your dealership had an 07 built rear end sitting on their shelf...

either way, hoopers will stuff a trutrac and 4.11 gears on my new 08 in the coming months!

Re: Here's # of Rear Diff Failures Reported

Well not too long ago I broke mine. Had it lock up and basically destroyed everything. I was gonna buy another rear end but they were really pricey so i hooked up with a local shop and I went with the detroit. One of the best posi,s I have ever driven with and I love it now.

Cool. Tomorrow I am going to call the parts department to get part numbers for an 07 and 08 RE and then while I am working on my rental car arrangements I will find out which rear end they are putting in my truck.

Re: Here's # of Rear Diff Failures Reported

I had a dealer installed replacement this summer. I called to find out which version they put in as I'd like to go to a trutrac. Those bozos claim they don't know.

Any way to find out what I've got? Is there a date at which they changed or can I tell by the physical appearance?

Re: Here's # of Rear Diff Failures Reported

It was only a matter of time.... This morning I noticed a funny whine sound after driving maybe 1/8 mile from my house and just for about 10 seconds. I'm pretty much in tune with auto sounds, good and bad, so I figured perhaps it was just the cold parts warming up. Tonight me and the lady were driving and there was a small, but distinct clunk. Went to see a friend and had one more definite clunk up his driveway. Came out and within a few hundred yards of leaving his house, major clunk clunk shutter clunk. I was hoping my diff would go before the warranty expired so I guess that part was good. Limped along back to his house and the bucking/surging was getting progessively worse. I acutally looked on his driveway and there were quarter sized dots of fluid every few feet. I'm hoping the dealer will tow it tomorrow and get the ball rolling. "05 with BT OR, so I figured mine would go at some point. I know some are still pissed that the newer ones have not fixed the problem, but the newer ones have to be better than the early '04's and '05's right? Do I have it right that the replacement OR diffs with the elock maybe have better (or was it more) spider gears?? I only have 25k and towed perhaps 5000 lbs one time about 5 miles, so no issues with overloading. I'll report back what was found.

Just added my report. Your Complaint Information is successfully submitted.

Re: Here's # of Rear Diff Failures Reported

Hello new titan owner here. Just recently purchased a 04 OR CC. I was underneath the truck just checking things out and i believe my rear end was replaced. There is a barcode sticker that is lightly faded and starting to peel off, after five years there is no way that sticker would still be there. So how do I know if it has been replaced? Take it to the dealer and have them check the vin#? If it has been replaced then I will send in my report.
On a side note I love my truck but starting to second guess almost regret buying the titan, ever since reading about these rear end failures and such. I bought the truck for towing and now has me worried about being left stranded.

Re: Here's # of Rear Diff Failures Reported

Ok. Got an answer from guys I know at Nissan Engineering

"As it turns out we are not going to need your friends Titan. There was a design change between 05-06 MY for the axle shaft, side gear, & snap ring specs, and also the pull out force spec. Although we still have some pull out issues now, prior to 06MY we had many more. FQI would still like your friend to fill out this questionnaire after the repair is performed."

So................to answer the question about the two part numbers of the front diff's.

#38500-8S102 = 2004 thru 2006
#38500-8S11B = New designed diff. addressing the issues.

Make sure you are armed when talking to your stealership. Flat out tell them that Nissan engineers redesigned it due to the above issues.

Please note that the titan was orginally engineered in Japan and that the US nissan engineers told the Jap's about the abuse we put on our trucks. Now the US engineers are fixing their f-ups.

Huh? So they are still having pull out issues on the new one.

Not reassuring is it?

Re: Here's # of Rear Diff Failures Reported

mine just blew out of its casing about a week ago it was nasty! there was oil all over the intersection and I was stuck, until I put it on 4lo then reversed I was able 2 get it outta the way. I dont really wanna take it 2 the dealer bcuz Im running 35's so I'm pretty sure they'll blame it on that so I just took it 2 a local mechanic and he's gonna put a whole new diff on & re-gear the whole thing... I love my Titan & I wouldnt trade it 4 any other truck but honestly this is the 1 n only time it has ever let me down I hope it'll b the last..

Re: Here's # of Rear Diff Failures Reported

Felt a shimmy on my left rear and took to the dealer. Bearing going bad, metal in the center section so they want to replace it with rear end #3.
