I had an 03 Murano that had the alternator go out, when I took it for the repair, I bought my Titan. Two weeks ago (2nd week of Apr. 09) a friend of mine with an 05 4x4 Titan had what I think was the differential problem. I'll update when he gets it back and knows exactly what they did.
Oh, I think I agree with Hooli up there, get the number for your Nissan rep in your area.

Well I just reported mine in the referenced website on page 1 of this thread.

I've got a 2004 KC BT that I recently bought with about 65k miles. I have no idea if the diff has been replaced but I know I still have the stamped steel diff cover. When Nissan replaces an axle, is it just the internal parts or the whole housing? Do you get the aluminum diff cover with the new axle? I'm getting a smoking deal on a brand new axle that was used by a marketing company for a comparison of truck rearends so I'm covered if and when mine blows.
BTW, Quad T.....check your tongue weight, I think your S2K sits way too far forward on your trailer.
My rear end rebuild is finally complete. It took longer and more $$$$ than I expected. I was one of the the lucky ones to toast my E-Locker syder gears. I purchased a second rear end which I did not use. Now I have a 2005 complete rear end for sale for $500.00. I am located in the Phoenix area. I bought it to rebuild, but changed my mind when I could not find ring and pinion gears to match the front. If you are interested you can email me at thatsgr8t@msn.com
Well as a note on this, the guy I know was told by the dealership that right this moment, there are approximately 67 trucks in the US that need a rear axel replacement. So if you are waiting on warranty service from the dealer it's most likely gong to be at least mid May. They told him go get a rental and Nissan is paying.

I wonder if it even pays to file the complaint with NHTSA. 5 years have passed and there are still problems all the way up to the '08 model and nothing has been done by them. Typical with a government agency though.
Hi everyone, hope all is well,
So, I brought mine to the dealership on Monday after I noticed the "pumpkin", or what I think is the rear diff, was leaking was leaking pretty good daily for about 3-4 days. This is the report I got back from them (after two complete days in the shop):
"2 seperate fluid leaks from rear diff. Pinion seal failed, right rear axle seal failed. R and R all parts necessary and replaced rear diff pinion seal. R and R all parts necessary and replaced right axle shaft, seal and associated parts. Topped off fluid. Road Tested".
Is this a failure? Should I worry more that it won't be a permanent fix? The truck has 53K and the warrenty is up in 7, obviously. Since the fix, it feels pretty tight actually, but yesterday noticed an annoying squeek coming from the rear right side. FYI, I also intalled a magnaflow exhaust last Saturday (sounds great), but I don't think the squeek is coming from that.
I went to bring it into the dealership today and while driving there, the sqeak had gone away. It was raining pretty hard, but my radio was off and I didn't notice it one bit. What's up with that? Does anyone have any advice if I should do anything else for the moment. It would be appriciated and I am a noob, but trying to learn all about the Titans daily! Thanks.
Cheers.

If you have the original "spider gears" I'd ditch it and go with True-Trac A.S.A.P.....they should have replaced it.
On the squeaks could be:
1- Red Rubber boot rubbing on the rear shock if it is the OEM Rancho
2- Leaf spring bracket rubbing on a leaf....can lube for first fix and bend the braket out for a "final-fix".

I know someone who had his rear axle replaced, do any of them have the Detroit rear or is that something you can only get by getting it done yourself?

Thanks Honeykeeper. The "sqeak" was actually from the aftremarket exhaust, the metal brackets were rubbing like you thought, so they adjusted them and lubbed it (no cost, I really do like my dealer). I hope this is a permanent fix! Also, while I was in there, I took a long shot about replacing the whole rear end, but the service manager said they needed to find failure before they could replace it totally. He did say he has said he's seen a number of '04's fail (but not all of them, even if one side goes first), he can't be pro-active just becuase one side seal and pinion was replaced. I've got 8K miles left in the p-train warrenty, so I hope nothing happens after! I tried, you never know! Thanks for the help everyone!

2004 KC SE i had my entire rear end replaced with 50,000 miles on it The dealership took care of it under warrenty. they replaced it with a 2005 rear end. Now this rear end is on it's second drivers side seal. What a crock of crap

2005 Titan. Rear end failed at around 50,000. Replaced under warranty. Filed complaint. I cringe every time I punch the gas now as I feel it is going to happen again and I am getting closer to the 60,000 mile mark. Sucks!
At dealership now awaiting new rearend! Spider gears completely fell apart! Does that happen?! Called Nissan Corporate to try to get assistance, 3rd rearend issue with my 04 Titan KC SE 4x4....warranty has expired (85,000 miles)!
