05 SE 4x4 34000 miles. I bought it used and have had it two weeks and the rear end went. The service manger @ Star Nissan in Greensburg Pa said it is a known problem and he said it was a problem with venting of the diff BS. He also told me after it is fixed they will discuss a maintainance program with me. sounds like bs.
I have a 04. Took mine in for a leak around the seal. They came back and told me that they would have to order the parts to fix it. I inquired just what parts they had to order. He reluctantly, after some proding, told me a whole new rear end. They were going to fix it, no questions asked. They just didnt want me to know WHAT they were fixing. Like I wouldnt have noticed...

Hey guys, long time no post.
Posted a long time ago with all the details of this plagued beast of a truck, amazing how much I still love the damn thing though.
Just had my truck in to the dealer for the 300th @#%&*#@ time.
Turns out amongst other things my rear is toast, or so they told me.
I noticed fluid leaking out of the drivers side rear axle into the rim when I was changing the brakes and rotors last week.
They said they need to replace the whole thing...of course, after some chin wagging with the service manager he admitted it just needed to be re- shimmed and that the center bearings had gone. Would be much easier and more cost effective for them to just swap the whole rear end. Funny thing is I already had the whole rear replaced at 44'000mi. I just hit 73'000mi and they're telling me the warranty only covers the rears for 12'000mi or 12 months. Nice eh?
I'm so glad I went with truetrac after the warantee was up. Sorry bro. Makes me ill.

I sent Nissan another letter asking them to honor their warranty and fix my howling differential. This differential was installed at 59k under the factory warranty and the new differential has a 12 month warranty after installed. Within 500 miles it started whinning so I took it back. After long arguments, Nissan says it must be my driving habits and they will not replace the howling differential. I asked if I was driving too slow or maybe just driving at all.
Nissan can have Dodge build their trucks or Suzuki, it does not matter, Nissan will be in charge of warranty and customer service. That alone will stop me from ever buying another Nissan product, period. Nissan Titan will just be another foreign truck made in Mexico. That new Chevy truck is getting better looking every day.

$3'500 for the replacement.
Not quite sure what to do at this point.
Have a trutrac installed for around 1000 bucks. Your problems are over.

I've got an '05 SE OffRoad with 34,000 miles, and this will be the 2nd rear differential problem I've had. They just replaced the entire rear axle assembly, part #43003-ZH05D, because it was making a cracking sound when it was shifted into R or D. It would also do it when downshifting sometimes.
I had another issue about a year ago when the rear differential just made loud noise and quit. They found metal fragments inside, so they replaced it.
Then I had my front differential go this past January. I'm super easy on this truck and baby it. I'm seriously contemplating trading it in on a new Titan (hopefully they're better). Maybe the replacement parts are from the newer Titans.

I too had a near cataotrophy on I75 at 80+/- when my rear end desided to blow apart and throw me from one side of the highway to the other. I had 88,000 on the truck.... Yes it is out of warranty and the dealership wanted an arm a leg and my only child to replace it with one that will probably do the same thing. I filed a complaint with the NHTSA (which hopefully will help someone else in the future). We did our homework and found that Detroit Locker has replacements that will work for the Titan. I now have a MAC DADDY rearend for a fraction of the dealers costs. Labor and parts (with expedited shipping) I only spent $1500.00 for the rebuilding of my rearend. The only negative to this change is that it is full time positrack. (If that can be considered a negative).
