Tailgate removal

What is the best way to remove the tailgate? Do I need one of those star drivers and if so, what size is it?

Re: Tailgate removal

Just release the cables, have it open about 45 degress and pull. It should come out without too much work. The left side will come out first then lide it left to get off the right hinge. It is a bit heavy and awkard to handle for just one person, but it can be done. No tools needed.

Re: Tailgate removal

It's easy! Open Tailgate, stop at a 45 degree angle, then pull it out, pops right off! Just remember to pull it out at that same 45 degree angle.

Park it in Harlem and leave the tailgate unlocked...it's that simple!

Re: Tailgate removal

When you are ready to take it off, have someon help you- the thing weighs a ton! If you do it without help, you'll probably scratch it at some point.

My Frontier had a bracket on the left hinge with a security screw. The bracket covered the opening in the hinge that allowed it to pull up and out. I'm not sure if they are available for our Titans or if the one for The Frontier will fit.
There is nothing worse than a thief. Years ago I heard a banging sound outside and when I looked out the window I saw someone breaking into my Mustang GT. So I grabbed a baseball ball and went out the back door and came up behind him. I said "hey buddy" and as he reeled around I swung the bat and hit a home run. I broke his arm and on the second swing broke his hand. Moral of the story is I bet he'll think twice about stealing again, at least he won't come near me again.
Don't you just love stories with happy endings?

Although it is a pain in the *ss, can't you just keep it locked, or can the tailgate be stolen easily even when it is locked? BTW, I would always be packing heat if I were to approach someone like that. I don't want to get caught with a baseball bat at a gunfight!

Re: Tailgate removal

As it was, I got an earful for hitting him with a bat. Had I pulled a gun, especially outside of the house I'd probably be arrested and charged.
Here in New Jersey if you shoot someone inside the house and he falls out an open door and ends up outside you're screwed. So if you do something outside you may as well lock the jail cell yourself. Their reasoning is being outside you weren't in the same danger as if they came into your house. I disagree and so do my friends, all 357 of them from Smith and Wesson.

Cliint

Yes, locking the tailgate does work.

He was busy and didn't see or hear me coming so I was reasonably safe. If he a minute to notice me, I could have been in deep crap if he was armed.
But as I said before this story had a happy (me) but a painful (him) ending.

Re: Tailgate removal

The tailgate comes off easily without tools. That's one reason why it has a lock.
