Remote start with Nissan FOB or aftermarket FOB?

I know everyone has different opinions, but I want to know if anyone who kept the Nissan FOB for the remote start has regretted not having a longer distance remote.

And Vice Versa, has anyone who has the after-market key FOB, wished they still had the window roll-down feature that comes with the truck?

Re: Remote start with Nissan FOB or aftermarket FOB?

I had the DEI Valet 561T remote start installed by dealer in Nov '04. It has worked great but the range with factory keyfob averages about 100'-150'. However, by pressing keyfob under my chin (thereby using head for an antenna repeater?) I have started truck from about 250' away. Conditions have to be just right.

Personally, I will be installing a more powerful transmitter (DEI 564T) this spring. This unit replaces the factory keyfob but susposedly can activate all OEM functions available on the LE model. We'll see.

Re: Remote start with Nissan FOB or aftermarket FOB?

i only used the window roll-down feature a few times and that was just to test it out. i love the long range of my aftermarket keyfob. i wouldn't give it up for the inferior range of the factory keyfob. there is a way to hook up the window roll down feature without any additional accessories. i think i will try this when it gets a bit warmer.

Re: Remote start with Nissan FOB or aftermarket FOB?

I Had The After Market Variety, The Range Is Unreal If You Go With A Fm Transmitter, Also Available Is A Two Way Remote So You Can See The Status Of The Car (running Door Open, etc) Right On The Fob Pretty Cool Mine Was ArounD 400 Installed

Re: Remote start with Nissan FOB or aftermarket FOB?

I agree with f00dstamps. Longer range makes remote start more useable for me. Alarm unit wasn't much more money, and meant I could put away the factory fobs. I was even able to add extra features such as window roll-up and cargo lamp, along with factory window roll down.

Plus remote is two-way and tells me my vehicle has started and/or armed.

Re: Remote start with Nissan FOB or aftermarket FOB?

Ive never had a problem with my distance...love the roll down and roll up....the reason I stook with stock was cuz personally I feel most fobs are nasty looking and the factory at least goes...AND its not all huge with a freaking poor quality screen that has a "drawn" truck/car on it... AT LEAST NOT YET, I havent found one that has been to appealing for me and am not trying to dog on any of the alarms any of u guys have or like...

Millenia,
Looks like the 564T is an alarm also. Is this true?

I could see how the 150' range could suck, but I agree that the Nissan FOB is nice and compact.

The shop that is installing the remote start says that there is a unit made by Viper, which he says is DEI, that can use the factory remote. He insists that I will return it to get the longer range.

Does anyone know if the window roll down feature on the aftermarket units can be configured to roll down all the windows on the crew cab?

Re: Remote start with Nissan FOB or aftermarket FOB?

I opted for both FOB's. I kept both the original FOB for doors/windows, and added only a FOB to start/stop the truck. My plan is, when summer comes around I will lose the extra FOB and just carry the factory. BTW that was also the least exspensive route as well.

QuickOne,
Yes the DEI Hornet 564T unit also includes alarm options. And according to Doug at autopreservers.com it has 5 channels to control such things as the memory seat, window roll down, etc.

I suggest you email Doug at autopreservers@wowway.com for friendly and informative advice on what you might want. I received prompt and specific info when inquiring about my situation and his website was the only one that listed installation along with owner's manuals for download. That available info convinced me to go with his company since I needed information on how to increase run time on my present unit which is only included in the install instructions.

If you go aftermarket you can get a window control module that will roll up and down your windows for 40$
