Dana Corporation!

I was watching CNN today while in the dealership getting my clear plastice guage fixed by the dealership since they broke it and on CNN they were reporting the worse stocks of 2005 and DANA Corporation was the worst as far as net worth and growth were concerned. Maybe since they keep making junky rearends for Nissan? I thought they made good ones till i bought my titan and seen all the problems that some are having. Even though i haven't had a problem with my 04's rearend!(knock on wood)

Re: Dana Corporation!

They make great rear ends. They only seem to become a problem when they're underfilled from the factory and filled with the incorrect fluid, or they're abused above and beyond normal 1/2 ton use. In fact, Nissan had them beefed up for use in Titans only.

Re: Dana Corporation!

I thought Nissan designed the rear end and Dana produces them. Regardless of stock performance this is the first I have heard that Dana does not make good rear ends. But then again Austrian engineers may make a better product.

Re: Dana Corporation!

Dana makes great axles, Nisson just decided to put one that is too small in the Titan.

Re: Dana Corporation!

Too small. Where's is the proof?
Indications are that the handful of differentials that have gone out are due to poor manufacturing, not design.

Re: Dana Corporation!

It's my understanding that they just took a regular Dana 44 (plenty beefy for this application I might add) and beefed up the pinion for Nissans use. The front differential was designed by Nissan and built by Dana Corp.
Overheating a rear differential will eventually kill it...no matter who makes it or how beefy it is. Underfilling them will do this easily. Underfilling them AND filling them with the incorrect fluid is two strikes. Nissan has since corrected these two things and, with the larger capacity aluminum diff cover, added more fluid to the differential. I'm also convinced that a "bad batch" of rear ends caused some problems too, but I'm confident the diffs are plenty strong though.

A bunch of automotive companies are having problems: Ford, GMC, Visteon, Delphi Corp., to name a few.

CNN had a list of automotive companies whose stocks are performing poorly. But i found it interesting that GMC and Ford are having problems as well. The local GM plant here in western pennsylvania are closing at the end of 2007 and will put lay off many many workers.
