Thumbs up Actually happy with MPG

I just picked up the Titan 3 weeks ago (2006 Silver CC, BT, OR, Popular w/bench). Well last week we took a business trip to Denver in it and I must say our mileage was actually a relief. We left with only 1100 miles on the truck and drove 75-80 over Vail Pass and through Eisenhower tunnel. That plus about 60 miles of driving in Denver going to visit a few customers and going to see the Nuggets play got us 16.1 mpg. On the return trip we were stuck on I70 for about an hour in the snow at Eisenhower tunnel and then only drove about 25 mph going up Vail pass due to whiteout conditions on Thursday but still got 16.6 on the way home with the last 3 hours of the trip being ran at 75-85 mph. After reading about people getting under 14 mpg I'm quite happy with this mileage from a brand new motor.

That is fabulous compared to what I get.

Re: Actually happy with MPG

I'm getting about 270-290 on a full tank. That's mostly local driving around L.A. and some highway. The Titan gets lousy city mileage but if you can open it up a bit and do all highway, it's actually pretty good.

Re: Actually happy with MPG

Yes, the mileage is true. You have to remember even though we were running fast up hills we were also coasting down the other side. That probably helps quite a bit. My wife's '02 Grand Cherokee with the 4.7L HO gets its best mileage on our trips to Denver. Something about that trip, we got 20.4 out of it on our last trip and it's QuadraDrive full time 4wd. Around here just driving highway flat trips to Moab the Jeep only gets 18-19 at best. Oh and also our Titan is our first truck that even comes close to the Jeep in acceleration. Our 2004 FX4 was a joke, the Jeep would leave it sitting at the light! Very pathetic acceleration and no fun getting completely clobbered by the little woman.

Re: Actually happy with MPG

Do you have one of those toppers on the truck bed, any cargo?

Great MPG, that too with big tow!

Congratulations.

Re: Actually happy with MPG

I had two V-6 Frontier crew cabs and the mileage was the same as my Titan so you won't hear any complaints out of me. The size and comfort was well worth the extra cost to buy my Titan.

Re: Actually happy with MPG

Something else I've discovered while taking two recent trips in my Titan is that my odometer is off by 1.04%. I checked my odometer against my GPS and both times it was off by the exact same amount. After applying the correction factor, my city/hwy. mileage is around 14/16 mpg. I have read on previous threads about others who discovered that their Titan's odometer is not exactly accurate either.

Re: Actually happy with MPG

My motorcycle was off by ten percent and I asked to have the speedo changed and they b*tched about it until I told them they must extend my warranty by ten percent MORE miles. They got the point and changed it.
My point is if your speedo is off or you buy smaller tires, you're getting cheated out the the warranty miles at the same time. One percent is only 360 miles out of 36,000 but more severe cases could be thousands not hundreds.

Re: Actually happy with MPG

Similar note! My last 2 tanks were gas from southeastern Virginia, and they resulted in roughly 16mpg mostly highway. I am very happy with this, as I'm used to seeing 10-12mpg with the Baltimore winter-mix I'm back to now. Reaffirms my belief in the winter mix!

Re: Actually happy with MPG

I got 19.3 MPG with a completely loaded truck over the holidays. Drove from Birmingham to Louisville, KY ~425 miles before I filled her back up with 22 gallons.

I think all of the odometers are off a little. My old 04 was way worse then the new 05 I've got right now.

the 04 was about 10 miles off per 1k miles going by my NAV.

my 05 is off by 5 miles so far at 2400 miles, I'm still checking it out up to 10k miles to see how far it is off .

Deep.
