Well, My Rear Diff is now going to that Great Mechanical Pile in the Sky...
Well, my rear diff is finally having to be replaced. I had both axle seals replaced two weeks ago. They have continued to leak on both sides as well as now having a howling sound at 42-45 miles per hour. The dealer said that they have pulled the rear diff apart and are now ordering me a replacement. They did say that they are expecting one to be in within 2-3 days after being ordered. They were professional enough to tell me they will put me in a rental during this time. Thank goodness for good dealerships after hearing all of the horror stories. I bought my truck at Landers Nissan in Southaven, MS. Great Service! I guess I will have to file a complaint on the other thread.

So sorry to here yours is gone to.
Try to file a claim with the NHTSA on this it is very important for everybody who has the failures to do so.
So please all who read this that have had there diff or diff's fail and are having them replaced please also take the time to file with the NHTSA site.
There are a few threads already with the link for this site.
It will not only help you out but also help us all out in the end.
Are diffs are good now but who knows after the 60k warranty runs out where we will all be.
We may all need this taken care of at some point.

How many miles did you have on the truck when they went? Also please file with nhtsa.

Re: Well, My Rear Diff is now going to that Great Mechanical Pile in the Sky...
Truck had 31,300 miles. It was 2004 SE CC 4x4. I have to admit that I too was a culprit of very low diff fluid in the rear diff. Did not discover it until 12000 miles on the truck and began reading this site. When I changed it I could not touch fluid with my entire pinky in the fill hole. I had to paint my diff cover due to rusting. I figured it was a matter of time and I was right. Too much heat for too long early in life. I am in the processing of filing with nhtsa.

Thanks so much for filing the report, I hope all other members will do the same.
It's very important to do this now rather then later.
My condolences;you are the 51st report here.If you get a chance post on the rear differential failure survey here.Or just post a few more things here, and I'll pick them up

Re: Well, My Rear Diff is now going to that Great Mechanical Pile in the Sky...
I am picking up my:
,04 CC
37k odo
4x2
Offroad with Tow
at the dealer today.
Work done....
Replacement of front Rotors (warped) turning of rear rotors all new pads, and replacement of rear diff seals. (I found one leaking and took the truck in). They had to replace them all under warrenty.
Hope the diff doesn't give out, if it does I am not going to be happy with Nissan. I love my truck but.... BUT I need a truck that is not going to give me problems, the gas situation is bad enough with out worrying about making major repairs with low milage.
I am just glad I got the extended warrenty 100k 7 years, at the rate that I am going in 3-4 more years I will out of warrenty and then it will be time to go shopping again.

I don't see Nissan EVER charging for new rear diffs...with or w/o a warranty. I would like to know exactly WHY this is happening, is it a flaw (I don't think so), is it a bad batch or just underfilling with the incorrect fluid from the factory. We may never know. I do, however, hope that if found to be faulty, Nissan comes up with a beefier rear and does a recall. I just don't think there are enough problem diffs yet for a recall.

Re: Well, My Rear Diff is now going to that Great Mechanical Pile in the Sky...
You know I'd really love to believe that it was a "bad batch" of gears but I don't see how anyone believes that anymore. We have diffs from 2004, 2005, and 2006 failing... it must be one giant batch right? I want to be optimistic also, but on the other hand I'm pissed that Nissan/Dana has not found the problem and I am probably driving on another soon-to-explode differential again. And if there is a revised diff, they need to make everyone aware.

I think a fix would help sales, lots of people may be sitting on the fence to see how bad the rear diffs in the Titan are? Once fixed they may decide to jump on a Titan.
