Unhappy Please help me decide if I have the new rotors

Note: normally I wouldn't double post this question(also in brake recall thread up top), but I just don't trust the work done today at the dealer
Quote:
Grrr I just got back from the dealer and the supposed "permanent fix". I'm paranoid about this. They say that I have the new improved rotors already, and that I just needed new pads/bracket and resurfacing. That sounds like the temp fix to me!?

Maybe you guys can help me confirm if I DO have the new, improved rotors already.

I've compared the new rotor pix in this thread, and it looks like I have the new rotors, but my truck was built in May '05, when they were supposedly still using the old rotors. Dealer just shrugged when I asked about that. I developed the shudder at 3k, and don't understand why I would get it, if I already had the new rotors!?!?

Here are the pix of my rotors and the supposed final fix writeup from today(the part #'s show they replaced all important parts, but the new rotors)

Re: Please help me decide if I have the new rotors

I recently got the judder fixed and was told the same. That I already had the newer rotors from factory, after complaining to Nissan they did confirmed that I have the newer rotors. They told me to look at my rotors, if it has a "groove" near the center hub it's new, they told me the older rotors is smooth all the way to center hub with no groove. A little hard to see in the picture but there's a "V" groove circle.
BTW my brake dust is almost non-existince since the fixed.

Hey baseballfanz,
I was just reading your comments on CT

It appears that I have that concave groove, but that raises my question..Why did I get shudder/big brake dust with the new rotors. Also my build date is 4/05, when they were using the old rotors *so confused*

Re: Please help me decide if I have the new rotors

I thinked the judder was cause by a combination of things and not just the rotors. Seems like Nissan was using pads that contibuted to the problems of juddering.

Re: Please help me decide if I have the new rotors

Look at the attachments. New rotor is on the right. Notice the equal thickness of the two sides, as opposed to the unequal thickness on the old rotor at the left.

HEY THANKS! I've looked at those pix before, but never focused on what you mentioned (the equal thickness thing)

I'll check that out in the am

From what I understand from visiting at Kirui USA,and talking to a person that makes the rotors, they had a major balancing problem with them, and he also mentioned something about them building up heat.I don't know if the heat problem came from the rotors not being balanced properly,or if that was just another problem on top of that one,Take it for what its worth, but these people are the ones building them, and they had to make the changes on their lathes/milling machines,so I took him at his word, not the nearest Nissan dealers mechanic.

They where so far behind from replacing the bad rotors, they actually had to out source a lot of the work to a major competitor Bendix brakes in Clarksville,Tn.

He said the Bendix pads where ok(as a whole) but not after Kirius "old" design rotor had a few miles on them.Basically the rotors warped the pads, and some dealers thought it was the pads where the problem, but in reality the rotors caused the pads to ruin.
He also stated Nissan took it VERY seriously, and both Kiriu and Nissan sent their own engineers from Japan to work on the problem, and according to him,and owners on this board, the people that have the NEW rotors, matched with a NEW set of pads should be good to go.

I think it was a poor rotor resurfaced job that repeated the problem.

Look at your top pic, at the outer edge of rotor, you can see "cross" lines that look to me, they are came from dulled cutting tips and poor set up which caused the rotor vibrates, you are not be able to see any line (straight or cross) if they machine them correctly (except final "none directional" lines applied to reduce noise).

I'd bring it back and point it out to them and ask for a new set of front rotors again.
