My sister is buying a new car and needs to sell both of the autos she has now, a Mercedes and a 2003 Z71 silverado with a 6" lift. I've been driving the silverado lately and I like it but I like the Titan way more. I could buy the truck from her or buy a used mid-low 20k titan and lift it. What do you guys think? I would be doing some light towing but nothing major(18' fishing boat) and I would like to do some light offroading. I also dont like the cheep rancho shocks that are on the silverado, small looking also. What do you guys think I should do? Obviously it would be more you guys are more biased toward the Titan, but is it worth it to just go Titan?
Hey Kevin
I have had many Silverado's and this is my first TITAN and I love it. I will keep buying more. I do some off roading and love how the Titan climbes and runs through the sand. I haven't been in the snow and mud yet( simply because there is none here in Arizona LOL) but will eventually. Knock on WOOD I haven't had any of the problems that others have.
My vote is go with the TITAN.....

Obviously, we are biased toward titan. However, even though I'm a chevy guy (my sig represents my 92 corvette) the silveraldo is the last place truck of the category. If I wanted performance, I'd go titan or Dodge, and comfort, ford or Tundra. The silverado will also be replaced next year and the value will drop like a rock. Dump it fast, then get the titan.

I recently drove my buddys 06 XLT F-150 and It wasnt very comfortable. I like the seats in the Titan better. I was the sober one driving my buddys around Lakeland to Tampa to the Monster truck rally then to some strip clubs and i didnt like the feel of the seats. To firm for me. Kevin I think you will like the Titan alot more. If you do go Chevy wait untill 2007!

Even if you threw a Dodge Hemi into the mix, I believe I'd have to go with the Z71. I love the Chevy look. Plus I'm a sucker for a good 4x4 anyways, and the Chevy Z71 is just that. Plus, it's already lifted and ready to mud.
Combine that with the fact that 90% of the Z71's have the GM 350 engine, which is one of the cheapest and easiest to find aftermarket parts for...
No contest. Keep the Chebby!
Otherwise, it comes down to what you want to do with it and what you like the looks of and what has the best set of options to suit your needs. Z71, Titan, Ram Hemi.... all great trucks. Can't go wrong any direction you turn.
z71 is a great truck i think i would do wounders for you.but the titan also makes agreat off road truck .just keep in mined that there is not a whole lot of aftermarket parts for the titan.but there are lots of lifts

If I already had access to a reasonably priced 2003 Z71... already lifted... That is the SINGLE-MOST reason I'd stay with the Z71. They been making Chevy Silverados a very long time. They been making the 350 engine even longer. I honestly cannot think of another engine(Maybe the Dodge 318/360 or Ford 302) that has a wider array of aftermarket parts available. At the same time, that availability of parts makes them cheaper as well.
Plus, like myself and others have said... the Z71 is a great truck! Damn the critics ratings!! And damn the resale value. Sounds like you want it for offroading and a toy. The resale is going down no matter WHAT you drive.
PLUS... this one is already used and you can get it cheaper. If you buy a brand new Titan or Hemi, it's gonna lose $5000+ the second you pull off the lot anyways.
I would say it depends on what you want. If you want a new truck or an in between truck. If it where me placed in this situation, I would go with the Chevy and keep it for a few years. You should get it for a song(family relations aside) because of the new twins coming out next year. Drive it for a few years and drop if you don't like it. Trust me, in a few years the truck market will be completely different. What with a titan diesel, new Tundra and Twins set to appear. More choices are always good.

There hasent been a 350 in a 1500 silverado since 99.
His most likey will have the piston slapping oil burning 5.3.
j/k
The 5.3 seems to be a decent engine if you get one that dosent slap but many of them do.

But that's when the head gaskets blow or the trans gives out.
