Do your door handles freeze, can't open door?

Guys,

I live in PA, anytime its below 30 degrees and I hit unlock, the chrome door handle opens, but the door does not open. I sqirted stuff in there but did not work. ANybody else have this problem with the outside door handles not working. The handle opens fine, but inside like I said does not unlatch the door and I can't get in.

Chris

Re: Do your door handles freeze, can't open door?

I haven't had that issue but then again, I do live in the South where it doesn't really get that cold. You may have to do a search, but others on here have had your same issue and had to have there door handle replaced.

Re: Do your door handles freeze, can't open door?

Yes this has been a problem with some of the trucks. Search the threads as this has been discussed before. I also see some of the threads at the bottom of this page in the "Similar Threads" section. I have been luck enough to avoid this problem so far.

Re: Do your door handles freeze, can't open door?

Thanks to all the stories here, every morning when I walk out to my truck I take a deep breath hoping that it will open.

From reading other posts, it seems that it only happens with those who have the chrome door handles. Is that the consensus?

Re: Do your door handles freeze, can't open door?

I had all of my doors repaired back in DEC 05 for this and so far sense then I have not had one problem with them at all, they are all just working great so if you have this problem go and get the TSB done it will fix it.

Re: Do your door handles freeze, can't open door?

No problem here, and as I live in one of the 15 snowiest cities in the US it is safe to say I'm exposed to some bad weather.

The only weather related "problem" I have had is ice over the back-up sensor, so as soon as I shift into reverse the truck thinks I have no more room to back up.

Re: Do your door handles freeze, can't open door?

The front handles have never frozen, but the back handles on the KC gave me some trouble the other day. It wasn't that cold, maybe mid 20's, and the dang things (both sides) didn't want to cooperate. After I smacked the little safety latch quite a few times it finally worked. Every once in a while even when it's warm the back door on the driver's side doesn't want to open on the first try, but never like this. Anyone else have this problem?

Talking Re: Do your door handles freeze, can't open door?

It has gotten down to +16 degrees here in my little piece of heavan in NorCali and no problems as of yet. We had one rain storm go through in Dec and clear off over night with ice everywhere, my door seals were stuck togeather but opened without any damage.

Re: Do your door handles freeze, can't open door?

the drivers door and rear passenger door have done it this year, not last winter. After driving with the heat cranked up for 15 minutes or so it's fine.

Re: Do your door handles freeze, can't open door?

My driver-side door was frozen 2 weeks ago (I'm from NJ). I went to Classic Nissan and the "service person" said that they haven't heard of this problem before. I told him he's got to be kidding because this is the second winter that I've been back for the same problem. Last year I was told that they replaced the entire system but it was frozen shut again this winter. I also mentioned to him about the TSB for the problem. His eyes bulged like a kid caught with his hands in the candy jar. He subsequently ordered the kit and I'm scheduled to go for the replacement tomorrow.

I'm glad that their going to order all of the new parts for ya.
There was a point late last year that I was wondering if they were ever going to release the TSB with the parts for this fix.

Nissan did do the right thing here!
We needed these parts right away even though it has not been as cold this year as it could be.

Let me know how the repair on your doors is holding up for ya.

Deep.
