Reg or Synthetic Oil??

Just want to know if I should put synthetic oil in when the time comes. I always used full synthetic in my 4 banger, high revs and stuff.

Re: Reg or Synthetic Oil??

There is a lot of discussion about this on here and other sites. Searching is probably the best answer.
I'd say use the synthetic stuff unless you can't afford the extra $$ for it. I'm sure you know the benefits of running syn, but I think the bottom line is that you CHANGE your oil regularly whatever you use.

To me the pros of syn are:
-Better protection over harsh conditions/longer time intervals
-Better fuel economy
-better wear characteristics
Cons are:
-price compared to regular
-possibly higher levels of silicon/abnormal break-in on new engines

I run M1 syn in mine but still change it at no more than 4k intervals, usually 3k intervals.

just my $.02
-Jesse

Re: Reg or Synthetic Oil??

Same here. I use Mobile 1 full synthetic every 3,000 miles. Chris

Re: Reg or Synthetic Oil??

I would check the website of your local autoparts shop: Kragen,Napa etc etc
last time i chenged oil i checked Kragen website and looked up the sales flyer for the Napa stores--M1 syn for 3.50/qt
i go to the store and the chick rings me up--FULL PRICE WTF?!?!
Just looks at me and scans a sheet above the register to give me discount-didn't even bat an eyelash!
Never hurts to ask or investigate!

Re: Reg or Synthetic Oil??

Honestly, This engine is so well built that you can use any oil of proper visc. and it wil do just fine. I use GC (german castrol) 0w30 in my engine full synthetic. The cost of running synthetics is not a big deal in the overall picture. I will make these suggestions 1)Reg. oil Havaline or chevron supreme(same thing) 5w30or 10w30 depends on temp. 2)Blend. Castrol syntec blend 5w30 or 10w 30, or mobile 7500 same visc. 3)Synthetic. M1 ep 5w30 or M1 0w40, Also GC 0w30 (in all temps if you can find it) of course. The differences are very minor, but if you want to be picky then M1 ep and the GC are hard to beat. Of course the key is to change at reg. intervals.
