Not in any attempt to downplay Nissan or their up-coming Deisel, but...
I'd give them a year or two and let others drive those things first before running out and buying one. Nissan was already fairly well known for powerful gas engines, so the Titan was a pretty safe bet. Yea, they had some "First year issues" like anyone would, but you could count on the engine being pretty good.
They're gonna be brand new to the deisel market and competing with the like of the Power-stroke and Cummins. That's a damn tough fight to just jump into the ring with. They have their work cut out for them.
I wish them luck though! Can only help us consumers when a company fires up a new product to compete with a company or two that have it locked down already, right? If Nissan can hit it hard and do it right, it'll likely cause a small price-war as Ford/Dodge attempts to hang onto the Deisel market.
We don't use it for to much heavy work, mostly loading helicopters, and moving engines and transmissions around every once in a while we have to move the max load or allitle more. As long as the back wheels stay on the ground it will move it. But it does get neglected real bad, and never gives us any trouble.

Actually, Nissan has been making diesel engines since 1935.
Nissan has been making diesels in heavy equipment for years, and they are great engines.
No offense to Nissan but I would feel much more comfortable with a Cummins powerplant. I am sure the Cummins engine alone will be a primary buying reason with a lot of ppl.
The only reason I would prefer the cummings is that the aftermarket companies would probably make stuff for it faster than the nissan diesel. As for as relieablity I don't know if you could beat the nissan it would be a tough call though.
