Winter gasoline effects?

This years winter gas eliminated some additive (MTBE or something like that) and replaced it with ethanol for pollution reasons. I wonder if this could cause 2 things I have never seen before:

- Like many others, my gas gauge no longer reads full at about the same time this winter gas started this year.

- I nearly filled a 5 gallon gas can for the garage. Ever since then it has expanded the plastic gas can like it has tremendous vapor pressure. Gas seeps out of the vent and around the cap from the pressure. I release the pressure but next day it has built back up. I have not seen this happen even in summer heat let alone winter cold.

Could the higher vapor pressure be causing the gasoline pumps to kick off sooner thus underfilling your gas tank?

The (up to) 15% ethanol has been around for a few years now...it's not new here in the NorthEast. The gas guage problem, actually the fuel sending unit, has been a known problem and the dealer wil replace it under warranty.
