Buying New - 2005 dealer stock or new 2006?

Hey all..

I'm going to the dealership tomorrow to look at their inventory of SE CC's. I'm leaning to 4x4 for the simple fact that we plan alot of trips out to the in-laws in Colorado.

I am planning on trading in a 2005 Fronty CC Nismo that I owe nothing on.

So - the dealer still has 4 2k5 Titan's , 3 of which are 4x4 - stickered at 35.9K, and 2 LE's at 39.3K and 42.7K.

My thought is this - leverage the potential depreciation of say - the SE @ 35.9 - I'm basing at least 6000 off - any existing rebates - Costco price (?) = OTD price.

On the otherhand - they have plenty of 2006's SE 4x4's ranging from 34.9K -37.5k.

Need comments if you think they'll try to dump off the 2k5 - with or without a Costco member price ( normally $500 over inv ) or try to drive me towards a 2006..

I am negotiating the OTD for the Titan FIRST - then work back the Frontier as a trade-in. I have line of credit that will bridge the difference - so I won't finance..

Thanks for any help!

you're in socal like me. you should be under invoice for an 05 and maybe for the 06 too.

email / call all your neighborhood dealers. they can get any one you want from the dealer that has it in stock. Buena Park and Cerritos gave me some good quotes. I got mine from Irvine because they matched and had it in stock.

Re: Buying New - 2005 dealer stock or new 2006?

My advice:

Wait until the end of the month. Many times dealerships are willing to low-ball a model to meet a sales quota.

The sticker on my 2005 LE was $37K. I paid just barely over $30K. The dealership was willing to match a price that I got from Cars Direct. I was ready to do the deal, but I was only a couple of days out of qualifying for a Nissan Early Lease promotion on my Maxima. After I indicated that I was unhappy with the lease situation and that I was going to walk, the dealership offered to come down another $750. In all I paid about $1000 below invoice. After the deal was done and I was picking up the truck, my salesman told me that they let it go so low because it was the end of the month and they were trying to meet a quota. The date? July 30th.

Good Luck.

Re: Buying New - 2005 dealer stock or new 2006?

good points guys - stoked I found this forum...

I'm also counting on the President Day Sales that are hitting this weekend -

Yeah - I'm using Cars Direct as a reference as well, and printed out those numbers to keep in my back pocket.

I had four call backs earlier today on pricing - even 2 on Aramda SE's (!!) that are "specials" for $29.9K! - I thought I told them I wanted a Titan..

Presidents day sale is marketing bull**** to get you on the lot. Ignore it.

Bottom line, you should get a 05 cheaper than an 06, including the rebate nissan had, it was even bigger on the 05, however, with all the problems the 04 and 05's had, in the case of the titan, I would get the 06.

thats exactly what i did. i was in similar situation. Didnt even look at the 05's.

good luck

ok - ignorant question - I know there's always the opening night jitters on first year vehicles - I've read here tonite of some of the TSBs for the 2006 -, and I know about the issues on the 2004, but you'd still wouldn't recommend the 2005?

ok, I bought a new 04 (15 miles on it) on may29th of 05 and it had a $3500 rebate plus the dealer took 5300 off the sticker. I would strongly wait till the end of the month and go from there. The dealer would be more likely to cut alot more off of the 05 then the 06.

Its up to you. Didnt the 05s have brake problems?

And dont forget its already got an extra years depreciation in value.

Unless the dealer really makes it worth your while, i would go for 06.

My understanding is that dealer's are doing brake upgrades ( correct me if I'm wrong )

But read my OP - I plan on using that the one year depreciation ( $6-7k ) and use that card if I look at any 2005..

at the same token - seems like the consensus is to make is on the 2006.., if so, I'm pushing the Costco discount!

btw - TitanAk - thanks for the welcome - although I'm from the Outside - much rather spend my time Inside ..

I really have no idea, but i would seriously doubt it. Dealers want to move these things and make a profit. They dont care about fixing the brakes.

Re: Buying New - 2005 dealer stock or new 2006?

The dealers do not do any upgrades before a truck is sold. they let the service dept. take of of it and get paid from Nissan for the fix.

Depending on the build date of the vehicle, some 05 models already had the new brake kits.

Mine didn't and the dealer just recently performed the upgrade. It's kind of a pain to have to put it in for service, but on the bright side, I just got a free 6000 miles on my brakes.

Re: Buying New - 2005 dealer stock or new 2006?

I did the "quick" visit to dealer A this morning - after farting around for about 45 minutes - hour to even find a 4 x4 CC SE 2005, they found it, buried behind 100 plus cars that had been delivered . Born on date was 6/5. Sticked at 36K - I didn't buy it -

a) They offered invoice at 32300 - that's it - although it had 20 miles on it - they would not go lower - and why should I pay invoice on an 8 mo old truck?
Let's see - baked under the SoCal elements ( ok, not hot or cold , but still ) for 8 months - depreciated by at least $7k ( checked it on edmunds ) and for what ? I would be better off buying a 2006 !
b) 2006 to 2005 differences - I do like the fact that the Fosgate for 2006 can handle mp3's - and the back up sensor ( although it was avail on the 2005 ) thanks robertc

buying a 4x2 did cross my mind ( cost mostly ) - but thanks to the wife, who doesn't want to hear my whine - she said I should go with my gut and get the 4x4 - ah, nothing like taking the emotion out of the purchase..

To validate for those so said it -good call, the sales manager "hinted" that he will never say never on a deal, if it means they can hit quota and get the $25K incentvive bonus - so he may be willing to take a truck at a loss. The problem is though - if this dealer already hit their quota prior to end of month , they have no incentive to give me a deal. And he did not agrue that there was ALOT more depreciation buying a 2005 - but still no dice..that's ok, no deal..

I have a decent relationship with the service mgr at the dealer I bought my Fronty from - and he's hooking me up with the sales mgr tomorrow. I'm not in a hurry to part with my money, I would like the truck for the upcoming trip to Mammoth prior to end of month - hence my reason on buying sooner than later.. - will report back on the shananigans tomorrow!
