Got my diesel Titan early!!! NOT! I know I have heard it before Titans have a loud valve train. But jeeez!!! This morning I defiantly had a diesel. The guy in his ford next to me looked like he was looking for a diesel emblem on the side of the truck. It went away after awhile but are we sure its normal? I have Mobil 1 10-30 and have always used that. I try to ignore it but any other vehicle I would be looking into new valves.

I feel you pain. I was told that these were normal valve train noises. I have to say that I am just plain embarrassed to go through my parking structure (its underground). Between the squeaking brakes and diesel motor I just don't think that I will own a Nissan again.
If i remember right its the synthetic oil that does it. This was discussed in one of the oil threads. Get rid of your mobil 1 and put regular old dinosaur oil in there and it should quiet down quite a bit.
M1 is notorious for valve train noise as it is. The purge valve tsb does kinda sound like a diesel also. After I had the purge valve tsb done (I did the ground wire fix also) I have run all kinds of synthetic oil and its as quiet as the day I bought it even in single digit weather. I would have it looked at.
All of these members wishing for a diesel should drive mine. I truly think mine is louder than Duramax. But, you know like every other issue with this truck "IT's NORMAL".
**This is a serious question. Can an engineer explain to me why synthetic would cause this problem? I have a hard time believing dino is better, unless of course its the same principle of STP oil treatment, make the oil so thick it silences the valvetrain. WTH!?
Quite frankly, are you guys nuts? Loud valvetrain? You apparently never had the purge valve TSB thing done. My truck is smooth as can be and is far from loud. I mean, you can tell it's not a VQ35 V6 but geez...no way could it be called loud. I use Mobil 1 synthetic 0W/40 (some of you talked me into that) and would never change to old dino oil! NEVER!

Something sure ain't right. I'm not far from you here in Fl and when I got off duty this morning at 8:00 am the temp was 51 . Before I left the fire station I cranked my truck to warm it up a bit. Outside the normal sound from the Zoomers it was quiet. I'm still running Castrol GTX.
Took my truck to the dealer and they told me it was the electronic fuel injectors. And yes it is loud when its cold for a while but they told me it was normal.I have a friend who has one and his doesnt do this and I told my dealer this and they told me some do it and some dont.Go figure.
It sounds like you guys with the problem have pretty much ruled this out.... but is there any noticeable change due to colder weather? My F150 had a really loud noise when it was cold that they called 'piston slap' - I pretty much put zero weight on what the dealer says... put yourself in their position... a guy comes in with a problem that he is not too sure about... what are you going to do? Start tearing his truck apart? Or just tell him something to make him go away. It's not like they're covering someting up... I'm sure they don't know what it is either but as long as the truck is running, why spend a bunch of their time looking?
