They are for what??

My sliding bed extender has two short straps with a metal fitting on the loose end. I cannot figure what they are for or where they attach, if they do. Can someone enlighten me? Thanks.

They clip onto the tailgate pins so that the extender won't bounce up and down as much, they kind of hold it from going up

when the extender is out on the tailgate, the straps slip into the the latches on the outside of the gate. I guess it helps to secure it. they release when the tailgate handle is lifted. at least that is what the salesman showed me.

If you lock your tailgate with it down and extender installed, that is 1 more thing a thief has to deal with before they can walk off with your extender.
