All with Diff replacements...PAY ATTENTION!!!

I have an 04 CC 4x4 with BT. My first replacement and only so far happened at 31000 miles. I have 33000 miles now. The most important thing that i noticed is that my new diff did not have a breather on the axle from the factory. It had a plug in its place. I brought this up to the dealer and they stated it did not need one that it was a redesign. I called BS on that one. I called another dealer and gave them the part numbers and information. They said that the new axle did not come with a breather due to shipping issues, but that it clearly listed a part number with the new diff info that stated one needed to be installed during the installation process. As for myself, I went to clubtitan under the do it yourself posts to the axle vent posts. I added this vent to my titan. I also went ahead and changed to fluid to make sure it was up to spec early on. No problems thus far.

I just wanted all to make sure that their new diffs had vents/breathers added during their installation. All of the pressure and heat from lack of breathing could be issue on the second failure so soon. Especially if the heat causes the seals to leak then creating a negative pressure in the diff which would further cause seal damage and premature diff failure.

Thanks I am about to go to the dealer and see what is taking them so long to change my rear end. I will check while I am there. I don't think it should take them longer than a day to replace it, and they started working on it Friday.

Do you have the part numbers. I had my Fluid Changed to Syn at 12K and they replaced the leaky seal for me, but I will have to check on the breather.
Thanx!

I don't have the part numbers at the moment with me. However, you can see the breather/axle vent if you look underneath your truck. It will be the small valve looking object on the right side of the rear diff. It stands 1-2" up. There is no wires or others attached to it. You can't miss it. Go to clubtitan forum. Go to the Do-It-Yourself section. Then go to axle vent mod. You can see the pic from there.

I am not saying this is everyone's problem, but I am willing to bet it is responsible for quite a few second time replacements at early mileage.

Well I jsut checked mine and I have the plug. Is there a part number out there for the valve? I really hate to take this back to the dealer and lose my truck for a day for what appears to be a simple screw on valve.

Never mind. I replaced it with a vent tube.

My buddy used to be a tech at the local Nissan dealership and said that gear oil should be changed every 7500k. He said that every time he changed the gear oil it always had metal shavings in it.

After 7500k (7,500,000) miles, I guess it would. If he's still driving it, that's testimony right there he had a good differential.
