Rode Around With Parking Brake? Any Long Term Problems?
Greetings,
I was a idiot this morning. My new truck has only 365 miles on it and I rode for about 1 mile with the parking brake on. The truck seemed sluggish so I don't think it was on all of the way. But either way, the brake was applied.
Is they any long or short term problems I should be worried about? Should I mention this to the dealer? I have never done this before so I am concerned. I am surprised that there is no warning sound when the brake is left on.
Anything that could ease my mind would be appreciated.

Park it on a hill in Neutral and see if the parking brake will hold the truck. If not, take it to the dealer and tell him the parking brake needs to be adjusted.
Re: Rode Around With Parking Brake? Any Long Term Problems?
I think there is a light on the dash, but there shouldn't be any thing hurt. You only left it on for 1 mile, worse thing that would probably happen is the parking brake pad probably won't last as long. But most parking brakes outlast the vehicle.
Re: Rode Around With Parking Brake? Any Long Term Problems?
So, the parking brake pad IS NOT park of the regular brake system? I thought that by applying the parking brake that the regular brakes were applied. Know what I mean?

Brakes are a "wear" part, so the most you could do is wear them out.

The parking brake is a completely different brake. Nothing in common with the real brake system.

I got a little peak at it Monday, when they were changing my rear end. It looks like a small drum brake on both sides. You can't see them with the rear brake rotor in place. The cable comes in from the very top above the abs sensor.

I am supprise that you can drive it with the park brake on. I forgot mine couple times but I couldn't get far. Not even out of the drive way. The truck just stop and go.
Re: Rode Around With Parking Brake? Any Long Term Problems?
It depends how far you push it down, with mine all the way down my truck doesn't even move with a normal amount of accelerator pedal. I am sure the engine would overpower the brakes if I tried.

wow...I didnt know that the park brake and the regular brakes our truck has were different...I knew they worked differently, the park break with a cable instead but thought it controlled the regular brakes as well...
