Active Headrests

I've looked throughout my owner’s manual and searched the forums, but I can't find an answer to my questions. There is a little tag on my headrests that identifies them as “active headrests”. First, does anybody know what an active headrest is. Second, why does it have to tilt forward so much? It's uncomfortable when you lean back in the seat.

Re: Active Headrests

Always wonder the same thing myself. What does it "actively" do?

"Actively" moves forward in an accident to cushion the neck from whiplash

How does it move forward? Is there some kind of mechanism in the seat?

Re: Active Headrests

After reading the posts from Titanoholic I realized what I needed to search for to find out about the Nissan active headrests. Here is a link. It shows the interior of the seat and the mechanism that causes the headrest to be "active". http://www.nissan-global.com/EN/TECH...EST/index.html

Re: Active Headrests

it would appear the actual mechanism is in the seat itself. the head rest looks like any other headrest.

Re: Active Headrests

maybe you need both, the seat and the headrest? Other then the tag on the headrest that says "active headrest" there is no visible difference from any other headrest.

the whole thing is probably marketing bull crap from nissan and there is no difference at all between the newer "active" and the older style.

You're right pi3,
the ones from '04 don't do much.
The "active" headrest look cooler, and before any of you "if it's not functional blah, blah, blah" guys chime in, I would change mine just for the looks if it didn't cost too much.
