AC/vent stuck on high!

Got in my truck Friday leaving work and switched the A/C on low. It immediately began blowing at full blast. I thought I moved the switch too far, so I confirmed. Switched it off and back on low... Still blowing full blast. I turned it up to high, no change. I switched the vent control knob to the feet, defrost, etc... Still the same thing. Full blast at all levels. Next, I turned the truck off thinking maybe a "reset" of the system would fix it. Nope... I don't know what to do at this point. Seems to be a computer glitch. My dealer can't look at it for "a few days" and I'm leaving town on later today for a week. Just curious if anyone else has experienced this and maybe knows a way to fix it.

Re: AC/vent stuck on high!

Did you take apart your dash for anything (stereo install?) - most Nissan A/C controls have a flat cable connection back into the BCM or BCM subassembly.

The control cable may have come loose - in this case, the fan will be on HI, with no ability to silence or control it.

Try taking the center dash panels off, to verify the cable is still attached. If it is, it's definitely something the dealer has to look at. If it's not attached, you just saved yourself a trip.

Re: AC/vent stuck on high!

I will check that out. It's been nearly a year since I had that piece off to install the stereo.

Re: AC/vent stuck on high!

It could be a resistor at the blower motor housing.

Re: AC/vent stuck on high!

Called the dealership yesterday and spoke to another new guy. They've had so much turnover there since I bought my truck. I used to know everyone and get treated well. Now, I know nobody there and I get the run-around every time. He said it sounded like a resistor and that I can check with the parts desk to see if they have them in stock. I told him my truck was still under warranty and asked if that would be covered. He didn't have a clue and said to bring it in for a diagnosis to find out exactly what it is and whether or not it'll be covered. So, looks like I'll be taking it in tomorrow.

I couldn't find any diagrams in the service manual showing where the blower motor resistor is. I'd like to check it out myself first and see if I can avoid a trip to the dealer and more money on a rental car.

Re: AC/vent stuck on high!

Hey, I've had some weird stuff happen with mine too. One day driving home from work the fan ans a/c just stopped. Cut out completely. After about 30 seconds it came back on again. Then, a week later, driving home from work, the a/c blower went to full blast all by itself. It stayed that way for about 30 seconds and then returned to normal. WTF???

Re: AC/vent stuck on high!

If the truck is still under warranty it IS covered. Never ask them the way you did because he can say no, then where do you stand? Go in and tell them you want it fixed and it's not even a remote possibility that you're on the hook to pay for the repair.
