Homelink on my 04 works all the time, without the key in the ignition. Is this normal? This is a big security issue!
Yes it's normal. But I can't see where it would be a security issue. I use mine to open and close the garage. When I'm home, the truck is in the garage. How does security come into play unless you leave it outside at night and unlocked? How exactly do you use your Homelink? Maybe I'm just not understanding.

If you left it outside someone could break the window and gain entry to your house, or if you buisness is on there your truck could be stolen and they could gain access to the buisness...
There was a thread along time ago about this and someone did a quick mod to make it only run on acc.

You wouldn't even need to break a window. A skilled person with a coat hanger could push the button by runnin the hanger through the door seal.
Same goes for power locks (which isn't a Titan specific issue).

Oh ok I see. But still....if it opens your garage, isn't your truck in it at night? If not, why bother having it open the garage. Homelink turns on lights and opens garage doors, gates etc. It doesn't unlock your home otherwise. And even manual garage door openers that come with most garage doors work while the vehicle is off and are often left right on the visor. And unless you work at a garage, I don't see a problem but....I guess circumstances change from person to person. This is the first I've ever heard of this issue. I love the Homelink myself.

I agree.
If you have a garage, use it. If not, don't program your homelink. Simple.
If they stole my truck, it would not happen in my front yard because I use the garage. It would most likely happen away from my home and they wouldn't know where my house is because there is no info of my house in my truck.
If a thief wants to get in your house, they'll get in your house. Using the homelink would be the last thing they are thinking of.
Stastics show that there is a 80% chance that someone you know is more likely to steal from you. Hence: coveting thy neighbors goods...

You guys are forgetting that the titan can sometime be use for a work vehicle too.
Say for instance you work for a cabinet shop, and you generally use your truck and you program the doors for the shop in your truck so you can load stuff without haveing to get out, unlock the front door, run around back open the garage door, run back thru the front door, locking it on your way out, then drive around back and pull in.
Now lets say you have to make a run with the flatbed to go get lumbar. You park your truck in the parking lot because if you left it in the shop then you would have to pull it out to get the flatbed in when you return, anyway, you and billy bob hop in the flatbed and go to get your lumbar.
About this time the meth-head you fired last week for being a meth-head comes looking to break into your truck because you have expensive tools that he can pawn off in there. He breaks the window, grabs your tools, then opens the garage doors.
Once those doors are opened, now he access to a couple hundred thousand dollars worth of tools, customers products, computers, basically your entire livelyhood. Also remember this guy is a disgruntled meth-head. What he can't steal he'll break out of spite. and he knows he has about 4 hours because he knows your shedule.
Everybody uses thier truck different. I have my homelink do my 2 home doors and the shop door. Many times I have left my truck outside the shop because I was coming back with the box van and somebody could exploit that weakness
But I seriously doubt that would ever happen, and thats why I am insured anyway.

Before his drug-dulled senses can even register, Midnight and Apache, the attack trained German Shepherds, hit him simultaneously with the force of a locomotive. Alas, by the time you return with the lumber, the meth-head has bled to death as a result of a severed jugular.
No for me its not a big risk and like I said Im insured, I just wanted to point out that everyone uses thier truck different and have different concerns. My last three vehicles had homelink and I will never go without it again.
To some people the homelink thing might be a big risk.
The homelink is no differant then any other remote opener, I always lock the inside door from the garage to the house because anybody can get that door opened if they wanted too.

This is true. Almost all garage doors are constructed of thin metal or wood where entry can easily be gained by using an axe or sledgehammer. If the garage door has glass windows, entry is even easier. I would think that any area that has high dollar tools and equipment should have a alarm system that is set whenever the area is unoccupied.
As mentioned earlier, if you are that scared of being broken into you can put a lock on you garage door or disable the Homelink.

My other vehicle turns homelink OFF when there is no key. If someone crashes through the garage door, I'll hear it. Breaking into a car to get the garage door opener is a common way to get into a house. Having power on Homelink 24/7 is not brilliant. It is a good thing the rest of the truck is perfect!
