morning transmission temp question

hello all, i have a question regarding the tranny temp. when first driving, it takes 12-15 miles before the guage moves off cold. is this normal? this morning i let her warm up for about 15 min (engine temp was in the middle) and then i took off. outside temp was roughly 45 degrees, the tranny guage didn't move for at least 12~15 miles. i was actually thinking it was broken. but then it started to move, within a minute it was about 1/2 up the guage. anyone experience this?

the reason i am concerned is that when i tow, i usually let my truck warm up in the morning for about 10 min, then within 2 miles i am on the highway. it is prob ok, but i just wanted to see others experiences.

Re: morning transmission temp question

I thought "engine warm-up" was something from the days of carburaters, and that EFI and control computers put that ritual to rest......I can't answer the tranny temp question....I have no temp gauge.

Completely normal. It takes a while for the trans to get to operating temp. Sitting in park will never warm up the trans.

Re: morning transmission temp question

Normal. I thought that was funny in the beginning. I know my engine temp comes up to operating temp within 1 to 2 miles.
