Re: Popping noise from front end

My guess is the sound is actually from the hitch itself. The sound/vibration can travel through the frame, making it seem to come from another source.

I'm positive mine is coming from the front.

And it happens only when towing? Strange then.

Re: Popping noise from front end

play in the hitch or poorly lubricated hitch balls will make popping noises, and being that the hitch is effectively a part of the full boxed frame, the sound/vibration could be traveling up the frame a considerable distance.. i experienced this using a 2 inch ball and a 1 and 7/8 hitch... thought the front end was going to fall out from under the truck....

That's what I was saying. Happened to me.

In post #19, you countered my answer to the original poster about it being more probable that it's coming from the hitch because it only happens to him while towing. I assumed, because of your answer, that you had the same issue. Yours then, is not related to towing as his is. Sorry.

Re: Popping noise from front end

I thought it was the front too and could feel it in my feet. For the life of I couldn't figure it out. I called up the service scheduler at the dealership and asked him if he had any other problems like this so I could fix it myself (I don't mind) he said to look at the two bolts that hold the rear trany mount to the trany.WHAT? well sure'nuf one of the bolts had backed out and was jammed on the cross member. I called him back and said bring it in now if I could. I did, took the tech about 20 minutes to replace both bolts. Then he spent another 45 minutes checking every nut and bolt he could find under there. Then he said he didn't like Nissan's POS axle vent and installed new fitting and put a hose to it. Told me to install a small fuel filter to help keep dirt out. There is a do it yourself on the same fix here on TT. BTW that valve is not a check valve, it is open hole right to the axle.

Sorry about that, check you trany mount bolts where the trany and TC meet.

Re: Popping noise from front end

my 07 was popping when crossing over a speed bump or just shifting the weight of the truck like when you pull out from a stop sign and turning ! BUT took it to the stealer yesterday and they found the cause it was a (TOP MOTOR MOUNT BOLT) they said there was a TSB out on it just take the bolt out put teflon tape on threads and antisieze on it ? so far have not heard it again ! anyway another reason i had it there was the chip spot on my dash they ordered a new piece and replaced it also BUT did a horrable job replacing it they scratched my truck all over the inside ALOT worse than the one i took it in for. needless to say i was HOT, you can tell where they took a screw driver or something to pry the piece out and on the passanger side where he opened the dash to get the piece out he must have leaned on the dash now i have a gap on the left side at the top of the dash when you close it. he got grease on the drivers seat and on both floor mats. i called them when i got home and told them that is unexcuseable it's so pathic i can't describe it. how would this tech feel if he took his new truck in and somebody scratch it up and got grease all over it? i'm done now had to get this off my chest lol.
