Popping noise from front end

Ok, I finally pulled my boat for the first time this past weekend and WOW does this truck pull nice! Anyway, I encountered a problem. I noticed that when my boat was hitched to the truck the truck would make a popping sound in the front end when I would turn the steering wheel. It didn't happen all the time, it happened more when I would turn the steering wheel a considerable turn. My passenger could feel it in her feet. She, and I, could feel it in our feet through the floor. I've never noticed this before. I pulled another boat the week before and didn't encounter this. My boat is bigger. It's weight is about 5500lbs., boat and trailer. The other boat was about 4000lbs., boat and trailer. I thought I had seen somewhere where there is a TSB out on this problem. Anyone have any thoughts on what is causing the popping and if there is a TSB out on it? Also, could this be the carriage bolts that someone else on here was talking about with the "thunk" on the drivers side when you go over bumps, which by the way I do have. Thanks for your help!

Re: Popping noise from front end

have you replaced your original wheels and/or tires? Is your truck 2wd or 4wd? have you modified the suspension at all? Did you check the lugnuts for tightness?

When you were turning were pushing on the gas too or were you coasting?

Re: Popping noise from front end

I'm on my original tires and wheels. It's a 2005 CC SE w/Big Tow Package and it's 4X4. Sounds like 'Got Titan' and I are experiencing the exact same thing due to his description is right on with what I am experiencing. I think I have felt it before once or twice but didn't think too much about it. It really started doing it when I was towing. I drove it tonight, not towing, and it didn't do it. Seems like only when there is weight on it does it do it like having a trailer hitched to it. My tongue weight is around 500lbs. What are your guys' thoughts?!? Are 'Got Titan' and I the only ones? Could it be those carriage bolts I mentioned earlier? Or am I way off here? It's something to do with the suspension and steering obviously. Help!

Re: Popping noise from front end

I have the same noise, It drove me crazy and finally narrowed it down to one of struts went bad, something internal.i got a new strut no more noise. Mine was caused by the leveling kit. It seems like the RANCHO STRUTS dont last to long after you put the leveling kit in. I already had to replace 2 struts. I dont think rancho struts can handle the level kit. that might be your problem.

Why is a leveling kit bad on the struts?I have a popping noise that feels just like a bad strut but I don't think the dealer will warrenty since I have a leveling kit.

Re: Popping noise from front end

My buddy had a popping sound like you described on an 06 C BT OR 4X4 at about 20,000 miles. It was a broken mount on the transfer case. Nissan gave him a whole new TC.

I have a PRG 2" leveling kit installed, and occasionally pull my buddies 10,000lb Searay. I have had no problems. We dropped it in the water laast weekend and all seemed well.

Ditto here, I have noticed this ever since the first time I started towing over 3000 lbs and I sometimes get it when I am backing out of my driveway going down hill with the tires turned, but always get it when I am towing. My wife and I can really feel it in the floor board when it pops.

Also my replacement brakes are making all kinds of grunts/groans/squeaks for the first mile or two when my truck sits for a few hours or more, really annoying!

Re: Popping noise from front end

Is there any way to check a strut to see if it's bad?I have tried rocking the truck but I can't feel anything from doing this. The pop I hear and feel is when the shocks extend though so this might not produce the noise anyway.

what level kit do you have? do the spacers go on top of the strut or in between the spring and strut?
