Well. Gotta hand it to the dealer. My truck was in the shop yesterday to finally replace my carpeting after the water leak from hell. When I went down to pick it up I noticed that they scratched the paint on the rear passenger door right above the body side moulding. The scratch was right down to the metal. It looks like they probably scraped something against it while the front door was open. Maybe while they were removing or replacing the seat.
Anyway, they tried to tell me that they could just dab it with some touch up paint. What a joke. We took the truck over to the body shop and they are going to try to repair it by painting the scratch and then wet sanding it. We'll see what happens. They said if I'm not happy they will paint the whole door. The body shop said that if they have to paint the whole door, they will also have to "feather the paint" into the front door to ensure a good match. They would then have to reapply clearcoat to both doors. They said sometime metallic flake paints can be difficult to match.
Any body guys out there? What do you think?

The dealership scraped the paint off of my front bumper when I took it in to get the radio fade problem fixed a couple of years ago.
Dealerships constantly have paint chips and scrapes so they usually use a mobile touch-up guy that works out of a van that comes to the dealership on a weekly basis. The mobile paint guy fixed my scrape in a half a day without painting the whole bumper. The fix still looks good after a couple of years.

My dealership owns the body shop next door to it, so I guess that is good. Hopefully, they wont have to paint the whole door.
I'm hoping your photo is the before shot.

How large is the scrape? If the scape is small, there is no way I'd let them paint the whole door.
It's probably about 2 1/2 - 3 inches long. Hopefully the touch up guy at the body shop is good. I really don't think I want to risk a color mismatch if they paint the whole door.

A good body shop can match the radiant silver paint perfectly. I found that out when a tire shop didn't tighten the lug nuts on my left front wheel. I used a Dupont certified body shop.
The dealership has scratched mine more than once...lol...BASTARDS like 37L1 said...lol
first time they painted it over passengers rear door as well and the last time they tried waxing and buffing cuz they were "minor" scratches what they called em but said sorry we couldnt take em out...I was like dude WTF???
The body shop had to replace my bed because of the bed blistering problem. The bed that came in shifted in the crate and rubbed the paint in several places. The paint shop "repainted" those spots. It looked OK in the shop when they were done but when you look in the sunlight, you can tell a color change. That still gets my goat. BTW it is the white color.

That is why I'm reluctant to have the whole 2 doors painted. I've seen metallic paints on cars that look good from one direction, but then when you look from another angle, you can tell a whole section has been repainted.

......and the problem I've had three times is that the paint fades severely a couple of years later.
I've had a repainted red front fender turn to a mauve color. It looked like someone painted it with a spray can.

Mine was a hit/run and had to have the fender, door, bumper corner cover and part of hood repainted in smoke (metallic paint). The paint matched perfectly and is more resistant to chipping than the OEM paint. After close to a year, the bumper cover that was painted has 0 chips, not so for the other (original) side.
If the repair shop is known for quality work (the one I used is the major contractor for the local BMW dealership) you will be fine. Since my repair was handled through my insurance, the work is guaranteed for "life" whatever that eventually means.
do not accept their work unless it meets with your approval.
