Key Replacement

Has anyone out there had to replace a Key yet. I lost one this weekend & I want to replace it. So I was wondering how much they were going to want for this as well as do I need to go back to the Dealer? I am guessing yes because there is probably some kind of Computer Chip that needs programmed! Thanks!

Re: Key Replacement

I have one that I purchased that I didn't use cause I found my keys. It's the Transponder key with the chip. It's uncut. And to answer your question, you don't have to go to the dealer. You can call up your local locksmiths and some can do the reprograming for half the price of the dealer.Which would be around $50-100.Dealer asks for over $130 when I asked just to reprogram a cut key.Make me an offer.I forgot how much they run for but mine is OEM still in the Nissan box.Bought it at the dealer.

Re: Key Replacement

It is so nice to hear educated people talk!!! Thanks tcf! Locksmiths are way cheaper than the dealer. We use the same equipment and keyblanks they do and the price is so much nicer. Just be sure to take anny keys you still have with you. Because when you program a new key into any Nissan, the other keys are erased and must be reprogrammed at the same time. If you lost a FOB also, ask the locksmith if they can do that. Again, we do, and they are cheaper than the dealer by about $50.

Re: Key Replacement

Thanks for the info on the Key & locksmiths doing it. That is helpful for sure. I called the Dealer & the key is going to run me 23 Bucks & the programming is where they get ya its going to be a total of around 70 Bucks for a Key & reprogramming! WOW! I guess my concern because of the mentioning of needing all keys so they can be reprogrammed. What happes too my remote start that I had installed it uses the Valet key we got with our Titan's! Anyone have a thought on that?

Re: Key Replacement

Your going to have to pull the Valet key out of the module so that it can be reprogrammed as well! If you don't, it won't get reprogrammed and your remote start won't work anymore!

Re: Key Replacement

Could any one tell me how do you program keys to the truck or it’s a secret.

Re: Key Replacement

you have to use their computer reader to re-program it. There isn't a manual procedure where you can turn on and off the key x number of times to get it to read a new key

Re: Key Replacement

Zach....It depends upon what model you have as to whether or not the key contains a computer chip. For example....I have a 2006 XE/KC and the key DOES NOT have a chip (It cost me $75 to find this out the hard way). I believe the SE and LE keys do have a chip and require programming.

Re: Key Replacement

My is 05 XE and when I tried to start truck with the new key it cranks but wouldn’t start so I guess I have no options but to take my truck back to dealer.

Re: Key Replacement

Sounds like you have the need for a transponder then! Try your locksmith, they are cheaper, as I mentioned earlier in this post...
