moving to Alaska, what are my concerns?

I am leaving Hot and Sunny Louisiana and moving to Alaska. Wondering what I should think about doing to my favorite truck to make it survive? Have thought about remote starters and some kind of oil pan heaters(???) but dont really have a clue about what needs to be done to a vehicle in those cold temps to keep it and myself happy.

any suggestions out there?

What part of Alaska? Coastal Alaska isn't that cold. If you are going to the North Slope, well that's another story.

Re: moving to Alaska, what are my concerns?

I've been to Kenai. I rented an F-150 4x4 while I was there. The high at the time I was there was 1 over. The low was 24 below. I never plugged the truck in and had no problem starting it in the morning. The truck had icicles hanging off the mirrors and bumpers. I was not prepared for that kind of weather. Oh, and Mr. B is right about the women.

Re: moving to Alaska, what are my concerns?

I think it was dreaming about moving to alaska with the native women!
As far as moving to Alaska I would think that the altitude might have something to do with your truck. Engines are tuned for certain parts of the country and altitudes, and if you bought yours in Lousiana it might be tuned for that area. Not saying it wont run, I would just check into it. I also think the cold will have a big affect to. frozen locks, frozen oil and such depending on the area your in. Are you going to keep it in a garage? And what area you moven to?

Re: moving to Alaska, what are my concerns?

I have spent a lot of time in Alaska. One thing about Alaska is that there are very few roads. Elevation won't be a problem, there are much higher roads in Calif., Colorado etc.
SE Alaska is fairly temperate, although it is extremely wet. Actually all of Alaska is wet. Interior Alaska is where it get cold and stays cold. I would worry about rust. I would also use a light weight oil, 0-30 etc.
If you are going to be say from Anchorage to Fairbanks good lights are essential. It stays pretty dark in the winter, there are a few days where you will only have light for a few hours. On the other hand, there will be a couple of months in the summer when it never gets dark.
Anchorage is full of beautiful women. I was amazed. The villages are a little different, but there are no roads anyway.

Re: moving to Alaska, what are my concerns?

I am an ARMY SOLDIER, so the big Army has decided its best for me to move up North. I am going to Ft Richardson AK which I think is just outside of Anchorage. I am actually looking forward to moving up there, and have heard that the women up there are easy and horny(but not beautiful)
