I've had the truck a little over a year and just noticed a small section just above the tail light that has that orange peel look. I'm pretty sure it could be buffed but It's not something I want to do or pay someone to do. Do you think the dealer would buff it out for free?

Every time I polish/wax I notice something new about my paint. Uneven orange peel, light color coat, I even have two scrathes all the way through the paint on my rear jams that were circled with a grease pen. I dont know if the were circled at the plant or at the dealer but it was before I took possession. I just touched them up myself.
I'd like to hear the outcome if you take it in to the dealer.

Back in the early 80's I did dealer prep at a well known Chevy dealer here in Tampa. A customer bought a new Monte Carlo and commented about the orange peel. It was bad. I wet sanded and buffed the car to a mirror finish. When I wrote on the work order what I had done they wouldn't pay me for my flat rate time. It went all the way to the general managers office, who shouted at the top of his lungs-"Orange Peel Is Commercialy Acceptable!". I went to work for a Mercedes/Benz dealer soon after. No more orange peel anywhere. Not even the door jambs. I doubt Nissan cares.
Orange peel is common to every vehicle out there. It is a price we pay to satisfy silly EPA rules regarding modern automotive paint. Today's paint contains none of the solvents, additives etc. found 20 years ago. Lacquer is a thing of the past. The paint is soft. Just looking at it gives it scratches. The paint is applied to a minimum thickness of just a few mils.

orange peel is completely normal for mass produced vehicles.orange peel is the result of the clear being sprayed verry dry (thin coats) to combat runs.you think the titan hasd peel go look at a ford
Orange peel is in fact not a normal condition. Nor is it a result of EPA regs. Orange peel comes when paint is sprayed at high air pressure to get a lot of product on a lot of cars in a hurry. There were some tough times with paint due to EPA regs. In the late 80's water based primer caused paint to peel off everything from Chevys to Volvos. That has been fixed. If you want to see good paint go look at the door jambs of a Mercedes or BMW. No wet sanding or buffing there. Just good paint.
if you think orange peel in the back is bad, check underneath your running boards and near the bottom of the doors.
Nissan doesn't cover paint with warranty sorry
