4x4 OEM COILOVERS

i have a 4x2 CC '06 with a prg 2.5/1.5" mini-lift. i noticed after parking next to a 4x4 with a mini -lift this weekend that he was higher than me and that was with a 2" lift up front. i did a search and stock for stock the 4x4 OR package is 1.5" higher than the 4x2(in the front). my question is could the oem coilovers from a 4x4 be installed on a 4x2 ( with the 2.5" spacer) to gain an additional 1.5" of lift. i know a lot of people just throw away the oem coilovers when they get the aftermarket ones so this could be a cheap way to get an additional 1.5" of lift for someone with a 4x2. what do you guys think?

Re: 4x4 OEM COILOVERS

I think you'd get a rougher ride without all the added weight of the 4x4. Probably better to stick to something aftermarket. I'm sure Greg can give you the details.

Re: 4x4 OEM COILOVERS

so what do you think greg? a go or a no-go! if you think this would work( i don't mind a firmer ride-even with the 2.5" spacer up front the ride is still plush) how much would it cost me for a set of oem coilovers from an '06 OR 4x4 that you might have laying around your shop. let me know!

You do realize that the spacers don't effect the stiffness (spring rate) of the ride at all? What you propose doing would. They use a stiffer spring to offset the added weight of the 4x4.

Of course this is all IMHO and IIRC, so Greg would be the source.

Re: 4x4 OEM COILOVERS

no doubt sammy! when i had my tundra, people were doing this oem 4x2 coilover swap for the 4x4 TRD coilovers just to level their tundras . the ride was compromised somewhat but not unbearable. however, the tundra and the titan are two different animals( the titan being the heavier animal in this case). i thank you for your input and respect your opinion, as one of the moderators on this forum you guys have a wealth of knowledge which i am thankful you guys share with us.

Re: 4x4 OEM COILOVERS

It might not be that big of an issue, since I can't speak from experience, I just wanted to make sure you knew there would be a difference. I know greg will (well used to at least) make custom height spacers. Another issue you'll run into is the upper A-arm contacting the coil bucket. Without the TC arms (and possibly shaving the bucket) that's a very real issue when going too tall with spacers (or coilover replacements.)
